Does accidental grinding of gears going into reverse on an M20 Muncie mean I neccessarily hurt anything internally? My club president said if the car goes backwards without a skip then everything is okay. It backs up fine, so should I just change the tranny fluid to be safe? Should I be concerned about metal filings in the case? I accidentally do this a couple of times a season. I'm usually good about this, but sometimes I get distracted etc.. Just wanted to hear from you fellas. Thanks in advance. Tom.

'Grinding' from light shifter pressure when going into reverse isn't detrimental to the transmission. Maybe a little wear on the edge of the teeth. Now the transmission being forced into reverse could take teeth off the gear.

Almost every muncie I take apart shows signs of gear grinding od reverse. The non syncro gear will clash and chip away small pieces of the idler and reverse gear, looks like crap and works just fine. I use them until the owner breaks a tooth, then it gets replaced.
Put the trans in first gear while sitting, the qickly whip it into reverse, it will never grind again:beers::beers:
