: Hood Choices... Opinions???

I'm scheduled to have the bodywork and paint done on my 72 this winter... I need opinions on the 3 hood options I've come up with...

The Velle currently has a stock flat hood that was on it when I bought the car 4 years ago... Problem is (other than it being a boring flat hood) now between the small supercharger that I have on the motor, and the fact that the frame/motor got moved upward 2" when the frame mods were done the motor will not fit under the hood...

So the three options I've come up with are:

1. Stock hood with a cutout and a Harwood aero scoop

2. Harwood 4" Cowl Hood

3. Harwood "Pro-Touring" Style Hood

Oh, and the car will be painted Satin Black and should look similar to this:

And the car now:

ANY THOUGHTS, PICTURES OR OPINIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

Hey first time i seen the pro touring hood! looks really killer...I bought a harwood 4in hood for my 72...really changes the car..looks killer...in one of my post, i have a prob with my harwood 4in hood, 1 in shorter on the drivers side...huge gap im dealing with...dunno if its gonna be a show car...but even if i just had a strictly drag car..gaps still p!ss me off...but anyways measure your hood first if you can before you purchase it...words of wisdom

That stinger hood (that's what I call the P/T hood right or wrong) looks sweet. I would say that if you don't need the clearance of from the big scoop or 4" cowl, why bother with cluttering up the nice lines your car already has?

Thanks for the thoughts so far!!!

The P/T hood is the one I've been leaning toward... And Harwood's site says its 3.5" compared to the 4" cowl hood... So there's not a huge difference between the two with clearance... My biggest thing is I'm not sure if it's a clash of styling with my car being a flat black prostreet/hot rod look... And the P/T hood is more a "newer" looking hood that might be better fit for a shiney pro-touring car with 20" wheels, etc... Maybe I'm just crazy in my thinking!!! But that's why I'm looking for everyone else's thoughts...

If that is a 177 blower , it just fits under my 4" cowl hood on my 72 with air cleaner on by 3/4"

Hmmm... That makes me wonder if a 4" hood will be enough then... Cause my motor sits 2" higher in the engine bay than stock because of frame mods... So if it's that close on yours already maybe I should wait till my fenders are back on to get a better idea on the height I need... Thanks for the info...

Is cutting your flat hood not an option?

Well I guess I could add a choice #4!!! I personally just kind of prefer the covered look for this car... But it's definately a possibility...

I think the 4" cowl would look the best.

THAT'D BE PERFECT!!! Ha hah...

I'm thinking that I'd leave it open like that if I had a big block or atleast a supercharger with a dual 4 setup... my 350 with the little supercharger just doesn't seem like it would be impressive enough to stick through the hood... That's why I'm thinking about the covered options...

So what do you have, a 142 or a 144 weiand?

It's a B&M... Pretty similar to the weiand... It came with the motor when I bought it from a friend... So I'm not 100% sure which model it is...
