I have seen a rack on a chevelle and want to do this too. I know how to make it work. I just don't know how to measure for a custom rack. I am looking at putting in a custom rack from Flaming River. I have already converted my front spindle to the b-body spindle with the big brakes and hotchkis upper arms, fatman lowers and Hotchkis 1 inch lowering front springs. I think a rack will make things simple and light. a lot less moving parts! How should I measure for this rack? Do I measure off the old steering linkage, before I converted the front end or has to much changed to use that as a base. My frame is sitting bare with just the new suspenion and tires. Can someone help? I think this will be a great project for all of us. I will share my info. as I go. Thanks

From what I've read and the pictures I've seen of similar installations (the Year One Chevelle comes to mind) you will need to do some pretty serious notching of the frame in order to tuck the rack high enough to maintain proper bump steer and ackermann angles.

I'll see if I can find the pictures showing the rack install in that car. If someone else finds them first or has them handy, go ahead and link/post them.

I orginally seen the idea in Hot Rod September 03 issue. It was a drag touring 67 chevelle. I spoke with flaming river about it. They say it can be done. I think the rack is the same as a Camaro rack conversion? I think since I have lowered my chevelle's front, I won't need to notch the frame. Thanks for the help!
