: Driveline issues when shifting gears :(

Well I've been down this road 1 to many times so I'm looking for some good advice.
When I shift gears I can feel the what I assume is the throwout bearing spinning in the peddle. The more I drive the car the worse it gets and the harder it is to get it to go in gear from 3rd-4th. The bell housing is a lakewood scatter sheild, clutch fork, not sure, and throwout bearing a centerforce to match the dual friction clutch. The scatter sheild was lined up by a buddy of mine, I was not there when it was done.
I think I have 1 of 3 issues, or maybe all 3.
1 Bellhousing is out of tolerance.
2. Clutch fork is wrong thus pulling the bearing out of line and spinning on the pressure plate fingers.
3. Pivot ball was not adjusted propperly.
Before this all started the Hurst Shifter was fine but not very smooth It did not go straight into gear, I could feel a click. Now it is very smooth. I can change gears with 1 finger. Shifts into reverse fine. Before I had to go from 1-2 gear to get the syncrose to line up then reverse or it would grind. HELP!!!

You accounted for the thickness of the block plate when you set the pivot?

Sean,

1.) I have never seen a Lakewood blowproof bellhousing that indexed within specs out of the box.

2.) What fork are you using?

Mine did, .003 out right out of the box. Tremec says up to .005 out, so I left mine alone. I had two very good machinist friends bring finger gauges from work to check mine, I trust there equipment much more than my kicked around dial indicator.

Sean, are you feeling the TO bearing when the peddle is depressed, or when the clutch is not engaged and your foot is resting on the pedal? Did you try adding/removing some slack in the linkage?

Vince I feel the TO bearing when the peddle is depressed. I have tried removing some slack but depending on the adjustment I get very bad surging at low speed.

Jody, I'm not sure on the fork. I beleive it is an aftermaket peice because its silver/gold anadized in color. Funny thing is this whole set up worked just fine for 5,000 plus miles behind the 396. When the 454 went in this spring at the 250 mile mark I had issues so I replaced the TO bearing. It was spining on the pressure plate fingers and had pushed passed 3 fingers on the right side of the pressure plate. You could see the wear on the TO bearing and the fingers. After 250 miles on the new TO bearing I'm back at square 1.

I'm not sure how I can have 2 TO bearings go bad in 500 miles. It must be something else that is causing this probelm.

This leads me to think that the pivotball height is not correct.

Does your clutch fork tilt 5-7* forward over center just as the TOB touches the pressure plate?

I'm not sure it does. What is the best way to check it?
