: Braided stainless lines off master cylinder?

I'm about to install the master cylinder which was provided with my 4-wheel Baer disc brake kit purchase. This new master cylinder has its front/rear reservoirs reversed from my current master. My proportioning valve has been relocated on a bracket just under the master because it was getting pinched between the frame and driver's side header in the original location. This is on my LeMans, but the basic brake install is, obviously, just like a Chevelle.

To ease adapting the new master, I would like to use braided stainless brake lines between the master and prop. valve. I have 2 questions about this.

1.) Is this safe/legal?
2.) Where can I find short (approx 6"-8") braided lines with the correct fittings for this application?

Thanks for your help.

I'm running stainless braided lines off my MC to the prop valve, I've never heard anything bad about it. Your best bet is to find a local shop (like I did) and have them custom made. They fit like a glove and cost around $75 for both if memory serves me.

They sure are easy to move to where you need them as compared to hard lines!

Theres is nothing illegal about it, just the safety factor to worry about. I've seen it done using custom made lengths, but it does add some flex into the system. Also, braided lines don't last forever, so make sure you can replace them later on. IMO, it would be easier and safer to get some short pieces of regular lines and bend your own.

I don't think it would be a problem if you keep the length short. There are quite a few new GM vehicles with braided lines to the master. Look at a newer S-10 or Blazer for example.

the factory ones have an SAE \ DOT rating code on them, any other ones are not legal and will not pass the safety inspection in Texas without the codes.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet, but you've given me some good info to work with.

Classic Tube makes them custom and they are DOT approved.
