Do all 700r4s and 4L60-80s have lock up torque converters? If they do have the lock ups what happens if you dont have it set up to actually lock up? Does it damage anything?
What difference in gas mileage is there with it locking up versus not locking up?
Thinking about changing to an auto and selling the Tremec.

I chose to go the non-lockup way with my 700R4. I have a 383 with about 430 hp at the crank. I did have the transmission built with that in mind and have a torque converter without lockup (2600 stall speed). I didn't think that the 2-300 rpm difference when cruising would make much difference and there is one less thing that can go wrong.

They do not all have lock-up's. You can have both if you like. Most companies though when you get into high stall's though do not offer a lock-up clutch in the converter.

I have heard in instances were someone had a lock-up converter and a non lock-up transmission and it caused overheating issues.

Gas mileage does improve with lock-up and it also decreases the heat in the Transmission too.

If you are going to do this in your ride for a cruiser than definetly go lock-up or get a switch mounted lock-up so you can turn it on and off and forget about it whenever you want.
