: Hot Wheel

My son came home from school and said there was a clicking noise in the front driverside wheel of his 74 camaro and the wheel was too hot to touch. I figured the caliper was stuck out so I replaced calipers and master cylinder. After bleeding the brakes, that wheel would not spin freely and the caliper appeared to be stuck out still. Could the combination valve cause this? I'm pretty sure the bearings are ok, the wheel spun fine with the caliper off. Thanks

Did you replace the rotor? Might have become warped and is binding in the caliper.

Just a though.

Did you put a little grease on the sliders?
Are the rubber bushings in the caliper mounts good?
Caliper mounting bolts bent?
Pull the wheel, wiggle the caliper around til the pad is knocked back and see if the rotor spins OK. If it does, push the brake and see if it stays bound up after that.

That's the list of where I'd start.

I can see the plunger on the caliper is staying out in the braking position. The wheel spins tight all the way around so I don't think the rotor warped unless the whole thing swelled up, it did get very hot. I have never had a problem with a combination valve before but it is the only thing between the new master cylinder and the new calipers. Would it affect both front wheels if it went bad?

Could be combo valve. Did you get a good flow of brake fluid from that caliper while bleeding? Sometime the rubber hoses or line clog up inside and inpeed return flow.
Also if that rotor got that hot it most likely warped. You would feel a pulsation in brake pedal while applying brake. Hope this helps........Jim

I doubt that it would be the combination valve if it was only one side. Sounds like there is some interference between the caliper and the bracket.

I would replace both rubber brake hoses, I bet the one on the side that locks up is blocking the return flow of fluid.

I'll vote with the Hose-Men if all the other stuff looks good.

Doesn't the combo valve work on diagonally opposite corners?

Bad hose makes sense, I'll replace it today and let you know how it goes. Thanks for all the help!!

replace both of them, money well spent and it is your BRAKE system.
