I have a 66 chevelle 12 bolt that I'm putting under my 68. I can't find the correct "washers" to bolt to my spring perches to hold the springs in place. I don't even know what they look like. Does anyone sell them? If not, I've got access to a 68-72 housing that has the raised "donut" on the spring perch. Could I cut those off and weld them to my rear end and then use the 68-72 springs? Please help.

I have not seen the "spring retainers" (Thats what I call them) for sale, but check the classifieds here for someone parting out 64-66 Chevelle or A-body...

Maybe place your own wanted ad in the 64, 65 and/or 66 sections...

These should be cheap and easy, because they should all interchange (10-bolt and 12-bolt and other BOP rears).

They are kind of "tear-drop" shaped (same as the spring lower pigtail) with a raised lip to capture the spring... Might not fit good on 67-up springs?

If you can weld, you could fab a simple retainer with a pipe and piece of flat steel. Pipe size would be whatever fits inside the spring pigtail, and maybe 1/2" to 1" long, and the flat plate holds the last coil of the spring down... Just drill a hole in the center and bolt it throught the existing hole on the rearend perch (1/2" bolt)...

You could probably do it without the pipe even, but not quite as effective...

I wouldn't change/modify the perches, just because its alot of work, and someday you might want to sell that rear... With the price of 12-bolts going up (especially the early rears), I'd keep the perch mods limited to bolt-ons...

Thanks! Does anyone have a picture from an assembly manual or something so I'll know what I'm looking for.

You should be using the 68 springs regardless of what you do to the perches. The 66 springs are different on top (full coil)and will not fit your body correctly.

This may help. Here is a Chevy dealer in NC Modern Chevrolet-Classic Muscle that sells a 64-66 clamp. Take a look under Chevelles catalog and search part #2254GM
The photo looks right

Found another potential problem. Which upper control arms do I use. Hotchkis list the STOCK 68-72 upper's as 10.275" and the 64-67's as 12.8". That's over a 2 1/2" difference! I'd like to put the edelbrock adjustable uppers on but don't know which one's to get. I know lots of people have done this swap, can somebody help? Thank you in advance!
