I'm getting ready to bolt up all the accessories to my engine and I'm planning on running the late model Camaro serpentine setup. I've already installed a 1990's era 9C1 Caprice steering box. So here are my questions:

1) I'm looking for more steering effort (no more light steering) - will the steering box give me this or will I need to also modify the pump pressure? I don't want to get carried away, I just want to feel the road for a change.

2) Will the Camaro power steering pump take care of all my needs or should I (can I?) put in a Caprice 9C1 pump in the Camaro bracket?

Thanks!
Ryan

Changing the pump pressure relief setting will not affect how your steering feels. The feel is 95% controlled by the valving and torsion bar inside the control valve in the gear.

You have sufficient pump pressure if you can turn the steering wheel all the way to full lock with your car on an asphalt or concrete surface with the car stopped and your foot on the brake. I would think that the serpentine pump pressures and flows will be acceptable.

If you don't like the feel and/or effort, you will need a new steering gear. My guess is that you will be happy with the Caprice gear that you mentioned.
