: My 66 build.
Impious66 Sep 19th, 09, 3:25 AM Bought in 2006 as an SS clone(454, th400, 12 bolt). Originally justed wanted to do a TKO 600 transplant. Turned into a frame off and frame notch/mini tub. Lots of overtime got me an Airride system, Currie 9 inch, Budnik 19x12 and 18x9's, Wllwood 14inch 6 piston front and 12.5 rear's. Currently boxing frame and building trans crossmeber. Gotten alot of inspiration/ideas from this site (especially bad66chevelle454 pics).
Impious66 Sep 19th, 09, 3:48 AM Found alot of rust.
RobSMalibu Sep 19th, 09, 10:13 AM sweet pics got any of the frame notch and what size tires are in the rear? Sweet looking ride
Bad66Chevelle454 Sep 19th, 09, 10:49 AM Travis,
That car is wicked looking. You're doing a great job! Tell us more about the car. :)
Blitz Sep 19th, 09, 11:51 AM Yeah man, more pics more info! Ya can't up in here and be so modest with a nice ride like that. I want a full build thread. Hahaha.
js1178 Sep 19th, 09, 4:52 PM my tko 600 arrived yesterday for my 66:hurray: i want to go the route your going but that is alot of work....
Impious66 Sep 20th, 09, 12:49 AM Thanks for replys. Drove the car for a year. It's my first muscle car and build. Tore it apart in 2007. Actually powder coated frame then decided to notch it. First of many mistakes. Have some basic welding and metal fab skills. Bought a Millermatic and been having long hours of fun ever since. Doing all the work myself. Occasionally get some guidance from a buddy who knows how to do everything. Here's a build sheet.
454 it came with
-Doug's headers, cut-outs, flowmasters
TKO 600
Currie 9inch 3.70
Airride tubular UCA/LCA w/Shockwaves
Global west rear UCA/LCA w/Airride bags and shocks
Unisteer rack, Iditit column, Grant wood steering wheel
Wilwood 14in 6 piston front, 12.5in 4 piston rear (internal E-brake)
Hydroboost/CCP Master
19x12 and 18x9 Budnik Gassers, 345/35/19 and 265/40/18
Procar Rave seats w/black vinyl
Autometer Nexus Gauges (gonna fab a dash insert)
Chris Alston 4 point cage
Lokar floor mount E-brake
Pics-my last drive, surprise I found in front cross member, one of the dozen times I've had the frame off, one of many reinforcements and shows how much I notched frame, shows section cut out and tool I made to measure wheel size, seat test fit,
Impious66 Sep 20th, 09, 2:35 AM Some more pics......Finished my trans cross member today. Had many failed attempts at bending one. One near mistake I made a while back was the backspacing on the front wheel. There is an 1/8 of an inch between tie rod and wheel, got lucky. I take the body on and off with a auto rotisserie. Pic of the device I used to measure for front wheel.
Bad66Chevelle454 Sep 20th, 09, 2:18 PM Travis,
Awesome job. When is your completion date? I think I'll upgrade to WildWood discs someday, when I have some more money. They sure are sharp looking pieces.
Sweet! This is going to be one awesome build.
You're neighbors must hate you just as much as they must hate me :). I keep a fridge full of beer as compensation.
RobSMalibu Sep 20th, 09, 3:23 PM That exhaust is HUGE!!!! I like it. Is it custom

Looks bone stock to me. Notice the original 'OEM' cutouts.
Hahaha. I'm just teasing. It's not stock. Sorry, had to rib ya just a little.:D

Ha ha. You know my pain. I don't need the beer cause no neighbors come around. I think they are scared of all the grinding, cutting, and welding or think I'm a freak. No car guys in my hood.
pist0lpete Sep 21st, 09, 1:38 AM Nice build you have going there. I dig the stance and the wheels alot.

The impact gun, the compressor, and the grinding... that's what kills my bbq invitations. they all still say it doesn't bother them but i know better!
tommycomfort Sep 21st, 09, 7:00 AM Looks fantastic! Gives me inspiration to start wrenching on mine!

mcmlxix Sep 24th, 09, 12:42 AM I would like more info on why you notched the engine crossmember and how you put it back together.
Do you finish the notch yet?
Did you add any other support?
Do you have any pics?

I didn't notch it. I found it that way during disassembly. Thought it was funny. I assume it was done in order to stab the engine and tranny together. I boxed it back in by making some paper templates, transferring them to metal, then bent and grinded the metal to shape.

I cant belive you actually drove it for a year like that and nothing happened. Did you find any other stress cracks when you pulled everything else off the frame?
And to think, I was worried about notching my frame a inch or two to clear my LS motor....

I drove it hard. Found no stress cracks.
