i am slowly but surely getting there. a little each night almost. i just finnished 2 coats of por-15 on everything after sandblasting the caprice spindles, i bolted the boxed lower control arms on and the adjustable uppers. new lowered bb springs. i torqued the ball joints last night and now i am getting the rotors and calipers painted and ready. then i figure i'll put the shocks, 1-3/8" sway bar on and steering linkages. oh and the 88 ss monte carlo steering box. whad-ya tink?

Lookin good Pete. When you get done you'll need to let me know how those uppers work out on the street. But hey I am a year or two away from getting to where you are... graemlins/beers.gif

Pete,

Are those the Pole Position uppers? I know Darryl H. here has them on his '69. I've looked at them and think they are a great alternative to the GW and HK units.

Looking good!

very observant! graemlins/thumbsup.gif i love that chris farly bit. actually i am on a lake above the dam. so it would have to flood the lower part of the dam first then above the dam and i am probably 30 feet above the water so i think i will be fine. i have a little fishing boat i could escape on! :D

That is cool Pete! We use a very simular upper A arm on our IMCA modified pavment car and I often thought about how the might work on the Chevelle. Last time I had an alignment done they told me that they got it real close but due to 30+ years with the torque of the big block, the frame was a bit twisted and I would probably have to go on the frame machine next time. I was thinking, why not just change to these upper A arms! Both our dirt and pavment modifieds use a Chevelle clip with the stock lower contol arms.(IMCA rules) One guy is using the larger caprice/impala spindles and discs. He also uses a much larger ball joint, and uses a tapered ream to hog out the bottom hole in the spindle large enough to take it. I think he is the only one in our group that goes a whole season without bending one! I don't know which ball joint he uses but if you are interested, I can find out.
The dirt car, (2003 Howe chassis) uses Ford Pinto spindles and rotors with these same upper and lower arms. Absolutly no problem stopping this car however we have to add lead to get it over 2400 lbs. I will be watching this post with interest to see how it all works out. Meanwhile, I am still keeping my eye open for that 4 door hard top you need.

I got the same Pole Position uppers but you don't seem to have nearly as much interference between the forward tube and that cross shaft bracket ear as I do. Did you change the length of either of your tubes?

How much are those upper A-arms and what are the benefits? Any downside? What all came with them?

Would they work with a stock front drum or front disc setup? Looking good my man! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

thanks bcice, i am satisfied with the ball joints i am using. smile.gif KAA, i have not aligned it yet so maybe it will get worse? but i did bend the ears in just a little with a hammer. i have 5" and 6" sleeves on these arms. smile.gif Justin, they were $300 came with the cross shafts. -Control arms, adjustable polepossition (888) 303-8555-
9200M5 (8.25” –10”) w/metric steel cross shaft/ bolt in ball joint plate,
Requested: 5” & 6” sleeves w/ midsized plate 6.5” cross shaft centers/oe pivots
i like them because they are fully adjustable, it is a great way to compinsate length when going to the b-body spindle conversion. no down side that i know of. and yes they will work with your set up.

What keeps the upper control arm from moving around in a lateral plane? Are the heim joints at the ball joints secured by more than bolts?

i'm not sure i follow the question but, if you look at the joint to the left of the ball joint, it is welded, which keeps it from moving, it acts as a rigid triangle.

OK, I see it- that would keep it from "rolling".
