: Car sits lower on one side !?

Hi, New to the site and thought I would see if anyone else has run into this. My car sits one inch lower on the drivers side. Two years ago I replaced my springs with the Hotchkis front and rear set, boxed the rear lower control arms, replaced all bushing f/r with a polyurethane set from Summit and replaced the upper and lower ball joints. Ever since this the car has been sitting lower only on the one side. I thought that maybe something was in a bind in the suspension but have ruled that out. The next step is to move the DS sping to the PS and see what happens. Anyone ever run into this before?
Thanks
Dave

I think you'll find that the age of your car has contributed to "frame sag". My '72 Chevelle SS does the same thing you've described, and I don't think a spring swap from left to right is your solution. Let us know how it turns out....

Did you replace the body bushings? My car is off a little, but i think the body bushings are going to get my car sitting up straight again.

Guys, Thanks for the input. Is there a way to measure for frame sag and where does this occur? As far as the bushings go, the look great but anything is possible. maybe I will measure the distance between the garage floor and the bottom of the frame and the top of the frame to the bottom of the car. Maybe this will point me in a direction.
Thanks again.

The chassis service manual describes how to measure for spring sag. On the rear, measure from the top of the axle to the underside of the frame above. Both measurements should be the same, or within 3\16 of an inch. I can't remember off hand how to measure the front springs. If you want, I can check and repost, but if you have access to a manual, read about springs in there.

I dont think the springs are sagging because the car had the lean right after a spring change. The springs are three years old plus or minus a few months. Before the spring change it sat level, I thought at first it might be caused by the air bag in the PS rear but there is no air in it and it still sits lower on the DS. I am going to do some measuring this weekend and post what I find monday.

Put the car on a good and level concrete floor, and measure from the floor to corresponding left/righ side points of the frame. Then do the same thing, now measuring to points on the body. Analyze the numbers, and you should be able to determine if it's the suspension, the body bushings or both. This won't tell you if you have a twisted frame though, but let's hope that this is not the case.

Have yoy checked to make sure the spring is set correctly in srping pocket? Just a tought. My 66 is about 3/8 low one one side but i think i can live with it.

Guys, Thanks for the input! Have not had a chance to look at the car yet but now have some places to start.

my car sat low on the passenger side after I swapped springs, I fixed it by rotating the coil. read it in a mag that was doing chevelle suspension. will look for mag.
