Any specific questions I should ask?

Spoke with him on the phone today for 20 minutes. I was recommended to him by a guy at work who knows him personally. I told him my budget is $3k. He warned me thats pretty low which I know. He said he would paint it single stage. I thought for black that base clear would be better to get that deep look. I would rough the jambs, under the trunk and hood, remove trim, etc. I told him I dont want show paint but want it very presentable. I think he will be surprised with how straight the car already is. We will see what he sais.

Opinions welcome. :beers:

I did, he said he could start in about a month, which would give me time to get it ready. He said he only does 2 cars at a time so he would be done in a month for sure.

That is awesome and the way it should be.

Mary did this to her car and we had it back in a week. But the same shop told me it will take a year to paint my Nova.

Unfortunately most collision shops make more money off of doing repairs like Mary's car.

Well you will know how straight it is when you paint it black. 3k is what I paid but now I need about $1000 or so for a good wet sanding to help fix my $3000 paint job. Be sure and ask him if he is going to do this for that price. Good luck

$3000 is ridiculous, seriously he will spend $1500-2000 for good quality materials. If you do the math that leaves about $500-$1000 for labour, even $50@hr will give him 20 hrs to paint it,doubtful.Remember you get what you pay for and by looking at his work(nice by the way) he is not going to give you a show car job for a maaco price.I would expect he would want a least $7500 and up........so I would think that $3000 would be just a down payment.

You are setting yourself up for a major disappointment. He can't make any money on you at this price and he sure as heck won't be able to put much quality into it. As long as you know how the game is played going into it lets hope for the best.
