Has this been around before?
True or False?

Got this in an email.

Read this note very carefully. I did not know
about the clear button, but I will be pushing the clear
button before I swipe my gas or debit
card and after just to be safe.

People are getting really desperate due to
the constantly rising gas prices.

A friend just told me about something that
happened to one of his coworkers.

She used her credit/debit card to purchase
gas at the pump (like most of us do). She received her receipt
like normal. However, when she checked her statement,
there were 2 $50 charges added in addition to her purchase.
Upon investigation, she found out that because she did not press the
'clear' button on the pump, the employee
inside the store was able to use her card to
purchase his/her own gas!

To keep this from happening, after you get
your receipt, you must press the 'CLEAR' button or your
information will be stored until the next customer inserts
their card. Be sure to tell all your friends/family so that this doesn't
happen to them!

(**I had never noticed the clear button but I
got gas the other day and sure enough it is there. I will using it from now on....

I'd really would like to know how some of this stuff starts. Does someone have a dream and think maybe I should post it on the internet?

Always print your receipt. If there are extra charges on your statement your gas station will be in big trouble. Some people around here noticed false charges on there statement and filed with the credit card company. Come to find out the owners brother made all the charges on the mid night shift. He was charged with CC fraud and his brother lost the station.

my mom has had a few double charges at gas stations. whenever she sees them on her statement she calls the CC company and they reverse the charge. the girl on the phone from the CC company the last time it happened told my mom it happens very often.

people are under the impression they can bring down the internet, it's equal to those stupid chain letters people used to send in the 50's and 60's thinking they were going to bring the post office to a screaching halt, by shear volume.

there are people out there that can't think of anything better to do than mess stuff up. we recently had a cemetary with over 500 plots damaged.

really, where do you have to be in life, to think going to a cemetary, or the internet to do damage, will benifit anybody? do they even realize what losers they are?

hey, bob, i know, why don't we go down to the local cemetary and really f things up...

or..honey, i'll just be in here making up stupid stuff to send around the internet, yeah that's it, i'll be stickin it to "the man".

or.. hey dave, i need to take off early today to molest a kid, while i rob a bank, and lead a high speed pursuit into a school bus.

it's nothing more than ingnorance, and disrespect for others...

The worse part is that so many people pass these things on to a bunch of other people who pass them on to a bunch of other people (and on and on and on) without even checking to see if they are true or not.

It does make sense though. It's not a chance I'm willing to take. Two seconds is worth the hassle.

Once the sale has ended and you get a receipt, that's it, it's over. That doesn't mean the station doesn't have access to the info, whether you press clear or not. They have a record of all the transactions for the day. If you use a CC or debit card you need to check your account frequently. Have your receipts handy and if there is anything out of whack get on the phone.

I'm pretty sure the second you push the nozzle into the holder, it ends the transaction, thats why if you take it back out, you can't pump gas.

This does, however, work on coke machines that take credit cards. Atleast it used to. At my school, there was a total prick that noone liked that bought a soda and didn't hit the end transaction button (it allows you to purchase more than one item), well, another guy was standing by and ran over to it and bought like every soda in the machine and handed them out:yes:

If you make a mistake while entering information, you hit clear.
