Any suggestions for springs to keep a pretty much stock appearance on my 70 SS? It does not have air but it does have the original big block. I'm replacing all the 34 year old bushings with Moog rubber bushings on the front suspension and need to find coil springs and shocks yet. Any suggestions?
If I'd want it to ride an inch or so lower, can that be done by just buying a shorter coil spring or must I go the drop spindle route?

Scott I'm putting my 68 ss together right now and rebuilt the front end. I have a bigblock and my front end sat to high with the original springs. So I ended up getting some Suspension Techniques 1 inch lowering springs from Jegs. Since I have a bigblock Jegs said it would lower it a little more at about 1.5 inches. With the springs you can run stock shocks. My rear springs are moog cc501 and the car has a slight rake now, which is how I wanted it. The front still has plenty of ground clearence and doesn't sit to low.

you can shorten the coil on the springs. just make sure you use a die grinder or sawzaw or something like that. not heat(cutting torch) i can remember off hand but i want to say 1/4 coil to 1/2 coil cut = 1 inch of ride hieght(might do search on cut springs). you might also want to take into account the 35 year old springs may have sagged some.
i have two inch drop spindle and heavy duty small block springs. i cut off 1/2 coil to get car a little lower.
if you want your car to be sprung a little stiffer you might want to go with a bb heavy duty then cut to get desired hieght. i have heard and read that until you cut 1 coil you will not adversly affect the ride quality. maybe someone here will help with that.
i have the edlebrock ias shocks and love them. put kybs on a camaro due to money issues but i wish i woulda saved up for the edlebrock.

buy the stock springs from the auto store for a SB if you want it lower or for stock height, use the BB ones. They will settle in but be sure to position the spring ends correctly as per the manual.

I purchased 1 inch drop springs from pst but the car did not drop.Remember that the springs might be worn out and sagging so acually the 1 inch drop( from stock height) might be the same height you have now.

I swapped out a SB for a BB on my 69 and changed the front springs. Got them from Advanced auto, paid up front and they were there the next day.
Just gave him the year, make, model, and CID and they sit just as high as when the SB springs were in there. Looks good
