well for me there's always next year to hope Jr makes it. So yah I'd like to see Mark grab it, he realy deserves it.

The guy can still drive and isn't washed up like so many others were when it was time to retire.

I like Martin, but the whole welfare-system for points is BS... Tony deserves to be in the #1 spot. The racing sure has gotten boring with the "chase"

Remember the end of last season and beginning of this season. Everyone saw him as like a novelty driver. Just like "Awww, I'm glad Hendrick picked him up for a year so he could go out there and have fun" He's kickin' a$$ this year and he's doing with the right name on the front of the car too!

Martin has more wins. I'm glad they are somewhat going by the "2nd place is first loser" montra. I hate seeing people that consistantly place 10th way up in the standings. I mean, consistancy is good to have but come one, you need to win a time or two:yes:

I mean, look at montoya, 2 top 5's and 12 top 10's yet he is in but Busch(eventhough I can't stand the guy and was laughing my a$$ off when he didn't make it in!) has 4 wins, 7 top 5's and 9 top 10's. So because Montoya finished in the top 10 spot 3 more times than Busch, he gets in the chase....eventhough those three times could have been the other 11 races that Busch placed either fifth place or higher.....

Also, I can't remember exactly but I think it was Kenseth that had the highest earnings out of ALL the driver's and he didn't make it either.

I do agree, it is taking the "all or nothing" out of racing.

The chase in racing has diluted the drivers desire to win. It is all about making the chase. The same thing has happened in golf with their tour championship, where consistancy is more desirable than victory.
If it is really all bout the chase then why are there 31 other drivers allowed to race after its been pared down? I like the old way, you win a "winston cup" based on the entire year and you run all out to win.

I agree! Let them run to the end and the guy with the most points wins!
That IS the idea behind a points system ya know!
If you want it to be all about wins it will become a very boring season and a fan losing proposition.
D Waltrip had an idea few years back and that was to stop awarding points below like 25th. That would also stop a lot of debris cautions from junk falling off wrecked cars coming back out and trying to gain another few points over someone else that went out before or just after them. Plus how many times have you seen these returning wrecks cause another caution or wreck some contender because they spin out or just get in the way of the leaders!
But as far as I'm concerned the chase needs to go!

I like Mark Martin. Hope he wins the championship. I think the "chase" sucks. Go back to the old method. I think Nascar wanted a "playoff" like NHL, NFL, NBA, MLB have to instill some excitement and bring more attract more fans to Nascar. Then, NHRA followed Nascar in an attempt to follow the sheep . Although, a "playoff" style works with those other Pro sports, I believe it works for NHRA and Nascar. There is only one NHRA and Nascar 'league', unlike other pro sports. You're racing basically the same field of racers every weekend, why is a "playoff" required? :boring:

They did it to keep interest in it toward the end of the season.
I believe it was Kenseth that had the championship locked up with a bunch of races left to go and only the die hard fans watched because pro football starts up when they are winding down.
Coser points equals more fan interest.

I sure hope he wins. Here is a driver that is very personable, and race's everyone clean. It would be nice to see Jr. in the chase, but for what ever reason he just doesn't seem to have what it takes to be a contender. If something doesn't happen I don't see him at Hendricks musch longer.

Hendrick will keep him as long as possible, he is a big money maker as far as merchandising goes.

Jr. is just not a good driver, plain and simple. He is not his dad. So many expect him to be the great driver his dad was, but he just isnt.

I was fortunate enough to see Mark lead over 300 of 400 laps in Dover and then take the win, that was the 98 season, that was the last I attended a live race, I remember telling my wife that I didn't care if I went to another race I saw Mark win! ...well that came true.. he came so close that year I hope 2009 will be his year, a true Champion and a Gentleman racer at that!

I have been a Tony Stewart fan and supporter ever since dale died, but if Mark Martin wins the cup I will be just as happy.
Just think, all those years in a F*rd and no title, but strap him in a Chevrolet and go baby go!

He can drive a car,for whatever reason his head just doesn't seem to be on right for some reason.

He'll charge from the rear run in the top 10 all day and finish 20th.Not sure why that keeps happening.

I like the guy i'm not a band wagon jumper so I'm stickin with it.;)

I saw the Ford Racing trailer heading up 93 this morning on it's way to Louden.

I'll be there camping all weekend:beers:

Oh he can drive, he could out drive me all day long for certain, but I dont think he is NASCAR champion material by any means. He is mediocre at best for NASCAR. He will always be a middle of the pack driver when it comes to the championship. He just isnt good enough to win a championship by a long stretch. As far as personality goes though, he would win that battle, he seems like a great guy to hang out with

I don't watch the "Left Turn Circuit" like I use to, but I ALWAYS pull this guy to finally win the championship. I hope he finally does it this year. Not bad for a guy that ready to retire. He does deserve to win the big one after being the gentleman is a sport full of hot shots and cry babies for so many years.

Exactly...Mark paid his dues, heck these guys don't even flip over any more since the roof flaps were introduced.

When Carl Edwards took that wild ride along the fence, he said "I never flipped over like that before"

Years ago it was the norm.
