This is inside the door, the side closest to the bed. Appears to be a drain hole for the fender. No wires behind it. If you can name it or better yet post a picture I would appreciate it. Better yet, where can I get two of them?

As always, thanks for your help, Bob.

Is that where the switch for the dome light is supposed to be?

My bad. 1980 El Camino. 229, not an SS or anything. No not where the switch for the dome light goes. That is on the opposite side.

Hmm, that's a good one. I'm assuming it's for either a drain, or some kind of bushing then.

Notice there is a small hole below the empty hole which I assume is for a screw or a push in fasterner.

It is for the seatbelt retract mechanism switch on the g body years. When the door opens, it releases the tension on the seatbelt and retracts it. Hope that helps you out. The part looks like this

Kevin - you are right. the previous owner hacked out the seatbelts and removed that part. I'll have to find some kind of grommet to fit there. Thanks to all of you for your help.

you should be able to put a pronged pipe cap in it, ace hardware.

I would not plug that hole, but get the parts to make your seatbelts work.

Don - I will go up to the hardware store today and get two of those pronged pipe caps. Once I paint and install them, I will post a pic. Kevin - I replaced the original seatbelts with three point seat belts and do not need to use the device that went into the hole. My seatbelts work fine. Thanks for the help guys.
