Im putting new shoes, springs and wheel cylinders on my 69 chevelle on the rear. I got one side apart and when I went too take the drum off of the other side too figure out how too put it back together, the drum was stuck. I dry penetrating oil several times and tapping it with a hammer and still have not got it off. Im sure someone on here has a surefire way too get a drum off. I also decided that maybe there is a groove worn in it to make it stick even though the wheel turns freely. I went too adjust the brakes all the way down and there was no hole in the backing plate  I thought there was supposed too be a hole too adjust the brakes but there is nothing on either side? Thanks in advance.

I guess my brakes are probably self adjusting, I was told that they adjust when you back up, is that right? I do still have the problem with the stuck drum though.

If I'm not mistaken, Chevelles have the adjuster hole in the drum itself. If the drums are replacement, the slug may not be knocked out. You'll have to look for it. If you still can't get it off, take a Dremel or similar and cut the heads of the pins holding the shoes. You should have no trouble getting the drum off after that.

mine were frozen to the axle. No amount of hammering or adjusting would budge it.
I ended up getting a propane torch and heating the drum a little. came off easy after that.
