Has anyone adjusted the steering lash to take some of the slop out of the steering. The manual makes it sound like a real process to do this adjustment. Would it be a problem to loosen the lock nut and change the adjustment?

Steve, I posted a procedure in Brakes and Suspension forum in the last two or three weeks, do search there using my username and you should find it. smile.gif

The reference to a previous post is a good one. Just an additional word of caution. There is a "high spot" on center by design. There is actually a small amount of gear clearance off center. That is why you MUST make the adjustment with the gear exactly on center.

To make sure that your gear is right on center the shop manual recommends the following: You should go to full lock in one direction; count the number of steering wheel rotations to opposite lock (X turns). Now divide that number in half (X/2). Come back from full lock X/2 turns. This will put your gear exactly on center.

If you try and make this adjustment off center, you could do serious mechanical damage to the gear when you try to return to center.
