: DVD wont accept data
Brob Sep 13th, 09, 2:42 PM I have a Memorex dual layer DVD. I cannot transfer any data to it. It always says no disk in drive.
It will play everything music, movies, pictures without any problems . I use the normal XP function copy data to CD. Device manager says everything is good. Any suggestions
Thanks in advance
Mike Sep 13th, 09, 3:16 PM What program are you using for the DVD ?
XP doesn't have native DVD burning capabilities.
I use this - http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm
Brob Sep 13th, 09, 8:19 PM I'm not trying to burn a DVD I just want to put data on a CD
Mike Sep 13th, 09, 8:30 PM Your header says:
Re: DVD wont accept data ,not CD wont accept data so I answered as that was the issue.
Do you have 2 optical drives ?
A DVD and a CD ?
Berto Sep 13th, 09, 8:54 PM you need to get your hands on a program like nero , there are free and shareware, trialware solutions as well
Brob Sep 13th, 09, 11:01 PM Mike yes I do have two optical drives both have the same problem. I may have complicated the issue with my question addressing the problem with the dual layer unit.
Brob Sep 14th, 09, 12:47 PM This is what I should have said
I have a memorex DVD 525G and it won't recognize the driver anymore. It has worked fine for months and now it and my other CD burner have crashed. Anyone know where I can download updated drivers for this 525G? I can't find them. Thanks.
Mike Sep 14th, 09, 1:03 PM You might try double clicking on 'my computer' then right click on either drive and see if 'recording' is checked -you can only have 1 selected to record so pick 1 -I use the DVD.
I have a Sony DVD and a Plextor CD and both are using the drivers from Microsoft -no other drivers necessary.
Try resetting the plugs on the back of both ,then delete both in the device manager and let Windows find them again.
Brob Sep 14th, 09, 2:48 PM Hi Mike, I just finished deleting one from the device manager and reboot everything seem to be working now. Thanks again i had a lot of picts from a 9-11 run we made from Cooks Corner onto PCH then to Belmont Shore about 2,000 Bikes Great experience. I was on the Avlon Fire truck.
DaleM Sep 14th, 09, 5:22 PM You might try double clicking on 'my computer' then right click on either drive and see if 'recording' is checked -you can only have 1 selected to record so pick 1 -I use the DVD.Isn't this only applicable to drag-and-drop recording? I haven't used drag-and-drop recording in a long time but I too have two DVD/CD drives (one Sony and one TSST) and can burn to either via other software (Roxio Creator Classic in my case).
I think I'm using the default MS (XP PRo) drivers and once every blue moon the OS will fail to recognize the 2nd of the two. Like Mike said, I'll delete it from the Device Manager and reboot. Generally it comes back on the first reboot.
CD/DVD ROM drives are one of several device drivers I NEVER update if it's currently working; not MS updates or mfg updates. Video and network cards are two other devices I never update. It almost never fails that when I try to install the latest-and-greatest drives for peripherals they fail. Then it's a PITA to revert to the original MS driver.
Mike Sep 14th, 09, 5:41 PM Yeah Dale ,3rd party software will let you burn to multiple drives -just to clarify ,not at once.
Using standard MS stuff ,I can only burn to the one selected in the 'record' selection of 'my computer' and it only let's you choose 1 or the other ,not both.
Since he said I use the normal XP function copy data to CD I didn't talk about 3rd party software.
And FYI ,in my annual cleaning of the 'puter ,I vacuum ,reset all internal connections and delete 'some' hardware in 'device manager' so Windows can reinstall them.
It works for me so I just do it.
