I have a tilt column for my 67 that needs a new lower bearing. Anyone know a part # or supplier? How difficult is this to replace/ any pitfalls to avoid?

They might be available from gm still. Try to find a older guy that won't laugh you out of the dealership.

The part # for the lower steering bearing is 7806142. # for the adapter for the lower bearing is 5698423. I recently tried to order this bearing from GM and had no luck as it was discontinued some time ago. I tried some of the chevelle suppliers, Hinshaw`s, Year One, Paddock and no one could help. This fits 67 and 68 only. The 64-66 is available and 69-72 is available. You might try one of the colume rebuilders, but be sure and ask if they use a bushing instead of a bearing. I would not want a bushing as it may lock up if not greased or gets in a bind. I am still looking for a replacement for mine. PS, I am one of the older guys. :D

I saw a reference that the original 67 bearing number was 7802186 and the 68 part number changed to 7804200 ( I have not installed one on a car to verify)
The only difference in appearance is the 68 number has a copper color on the inner surface.
The latest part number is 7806142 but I do not have one for comparason to check measurements.
Both the 7802186($19) and 7804200($16) can be bought fron this NOS dealer. I have bought from them with no problems before.
The 7804200 is a little cheaper because they have it listed as a 67-68 Olds Pontiac part...lol
