I have searched the archives and see a lot of early chevelle info and some later model info but I am still not sure what spring set up gives me what I am looking for. I am getting ready to undertake replacing the front and rear bushings etc with the PST polygraphite kits and also plan on replacing my springs as well as shocks. I would like the car to sit close to stock height but I definetly do NOT want the rear to sag like many 70-72's do. I am also going to add either the edelbrock no hop bars or the ssm bars (if I can find them). If that matters. What springs do I want? ('70 454 SS Chevelle) I see PST sells Hotchkis and others. Thanks, Skip.......P.S. Photos of cars with the suggested spring set ups would really help my decision.

In your search did you find any spring charts? I thought I remember people posting them
I do know a lot of guys like the look of the Moog CC501 springs in the rear.
I'm sure some others will join in here. Just bumpin' you back to the top!

Come on Guys....I know many of you have agonized over this same issue. I am sure there are some beautifully sprung 70-72s out there!

I used TRW replacement ones. I like the stance it gave the car but I am finding out that it does sit a little too low. There is only a few inches of clearance between the oil pan and the pavement. I already destroyed one oil pan, a set of headers, and cracked the frame bottoming out. So I personally would go for one that gives you a little more ground clearance.

I really don't want to lower the car significantly and really don't want oil pan/header clearance issues. Thanks for the warning. How about some of you folks out there who are happy with their spring selection and ride attitude? Please let me see your rides and have your thoughts? This is almost as bad as selecting wheel and tire sizes! Help....Skip

check with national parts depot, they have a complete listing of all chevelle springs.

I have seen and read about most of the spring offerings by several of the different companies but the problem is that I have also read from many folks on this board that when they ordered stock springs or even matched sets of (for example)1" lowered springs the car still does not sit right. Maybe this is because Ma Motors expected the rear to sag a little to aid in traction but I really don't like the saggy rear look. I will deal with the pinion angle/wheel hop issue in a different way other than having a low rear end. If at all possible I would like help on suggested spring part #s for both front and rear springs and photos if possible so I can see which set up I prefer. Obviously there are several different preferences in how our cars should be sprung and I would love any help possible. Thanks again!

I purchased new Moog springs for all corners of my 70 454 convertible from Classic Muscle. I don't have the specific Moog part number but Classic Muscle's numbers are as follows: CS5450 and CS5413. You can see pics of my car and how it sits at: http://hometown.aol.com/dwduckett/myhomepage/index.html
I'm sure if you contacted Classic Muscle, they could tell you what the Moog part numbers are that they sold me. 1-800-722-4828

Well I went ahead and ordered the set from Classic Muscle as you suggested 70ragtop. Your car looks like it sits nice. I'm hoping that works. The rear springs are heavy duty so hopefully they will give the slight rake I am looking for. I will let you guys know when its done. Thanks, Skip
