My wife got into a big fight over the so-called FUZZ that is all over the house!
We have a 1" thick plush carpet of unknown quality and the FUZZ looks just like it!!
Are there carpets that shed as you walk over them BAD like this??
I'm talking about beautiful, but cheap fiber "plush" carpets that shed like a frigging long-haired cat as we walk on it!
If so, what are they made of so that when we replace our's, we don't buy the same shedding carpet?
Thanks,
pdq67
PS., oh, and btw, the dam FUZZ along w/ my wife's gray hair was all over the furnace air filter big-time!!

How new is it? When the carpet was replaced in our house, it fuzzed for a while.

What you probably have is a staple yarn, that's referred to as "pilling"....How old is the carpet? It is normal for a staple yarn to do this when it's new... In the future what you want to buy to avoid this is a continuous filament nylon, it's an expensive fiber but it holds up really well and will not pill or shed at all....

Scott is correct.Staple yarns will pill and shed .even more so in plushes because the fiber "cables" are twisted less creating the velvet look.Polyester ,wool, and acrylic fibers will do worse in carpets.Wool will last longer over the years.(wool Oriential rugs are proof of that)but will always shed.Continious filament nylons with factory treated stainblockers such as "Stainmaster"will be you best overall winner for residential and commercial carpets.A good test is to get a carpet sample and rub your hand back and forth across the pile for about 15-20 seconds and see how much fuzz and loose pile comes out.

The blade of a pocket knife worke really well for this, we use this all the time in the store to demonstrate the difference between the 2 typed of fibers..As a side note, if it doesn't say "BCF" of "bulk continuous fiber" it's more then likely a staple yarn.. They try to use words that sound close to confuse people like "continuous heat set filament" or others like it.....

We had that in a place we lived. Bluegreen carpet in the living room and hall. When we moved the floor was covered in bluegreen fuzz under every heavy piece of furniture in the house!
It gets loosened up from the brush on the vacume cleaner!

Paul...
You sure you didnt put some cheap burlap on your floors???:D
Take some masking tape and wrap it sticky side UP around your hand. Get down on all 4's and roll your hand over the carpet...this will pick up any fuzzers...also the wife's hair...
