I'm reading the installation instructions for the new MP Brakes disc conversion. It says to use DOT4 brake fluid. My car has DOT3 now, what's the difference? When I get ready to bleed the brakes, do I need to drain all the DOT3 out of the rear brake lines (not changing rear brakes) before putting in the DOT4, or just force lots of fluid out the back bleeders during the process?
Thanks all...

I'm no chemist, but I believe it is the Temperature the the fluid can endure before it boils.

chev64 is right. The number specifies the boiling point of the brake fluid. Your fluid is similar to coolant and absorbs the heat unfortunately from your braking system. which is why your resevoir looks like black sludge and the bottle is amber. Anyway ,drain the 3 out as much as you can. It wont damage anything, thew two are compatible, your just looking to get as much of the old sludge out as possible.
