: Will 96 Impala rear calipers bolt to 96 Camaro rear brackets?

I just now got around to reading Kevinc's thread
here (http://www.chevelles.com/forum/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=7;t=007211), and it sounds like exactly what I wanted - but I do have one quick question...

Like the topic says, do the Impala rear calipers mount to the Camaro brackets? I've already got the 96 Camaro brackets mounted to the axle so it'd make the rest of the planning so easy...

Thanks!
Derek

No they wont, I have tried numerous combinations with those brackets. The only thing I could make work was the camaro stuff that came on those brackets.

Thanks; does anyone have the GM part numbers for the brackets that mount the Impala calipers?

how about 98 and newer Camaro calipers on 94 Caprice brackets?

Howdy! I jumped in here to ask if anybody has any experience with the late model GM rear disk setups (with internal park brake). I want to put one on my 66 Nova 10 bolt. It looks like the Impala SS, or 98+ firebird, or even 98+ s10/blazer will bolt up. Any idea on rotor sizes and or caliper bore sizes? I also want to run 15" wheels. Any info appreciated.

Hot 66... The Impala rear caliper is a PBR style single piston with a 2 1/2" piston with a drum brake style parking brake built into the rotor. The rear rotor is 12" or 11 39/64" to be exact. The 98+ Firebird and Camaro rear calipers are a 2 piston PBR caliper (needs lot of pressure to work) I'm not familiar wit the S-10 rear setup, butI know someone here does.

Hot 66... Oops, I forgot to mention that you will have to redrill the bolt holes on the Impala rotor to 5x4 3/4" pattern. The stock Impala has a 5x5" pattern.

Kevinc, thanks! I am pretty sure that the camaro REAR calipers are single piston, less than 2" I think. The blazer's are similar in appearance, with the blazer rotor being smaller in dia than the camaro. I guess I will have to go and actually measure some of these set ups. One thing I want to get is a good balance F/R in piston area, and be able to get a good manual master cylinder to work on my Nova.
Any other ideas anybody?

Hot 66,

Just a small correction. The 1993-1997 Camaro rear calipers are single piston PBR style calipers with an internal parking brake. I think the pistons are approximately 2 1/8 inches. The 1998-2002 Camaro rear calipers are 2 piston PBR high pressure setups with an external parking brake.

First, derekf my apologies for hijacking your thread.
Next,Kevinc please don't take this as argumentative, I mean it only in the spirit of sharing info about the subject at hand.

Look at the photos on this one for 98+ camaro rear:

Is there another option available on these cars?

Also for the s-10 look at these:

Let me know, I'll follow up also.
Thanks!

Kevin-

The 98+ F-body rear calipers are very, very similar to the C5 Corvette rear calipers. They are made by PBR, but they are only a single piston, with the emergency brake built inside the rotor (no e-brake on the caliper). Only the fronts utilize the dual piston setup.

hot66-

I tried putting a set of 15x7 rallye wheels on my dad's 99 Camaro Z28 rear brakes, and they just barely rub. You could grind the calipers down to fit if you wanted. I was going to do this swap, but I'll probably wait until I can get bigger wheels to make sure that there is plenty of air inside the wheels to keep everything cool. I have heard of other 15" wheels fitting, though, so your mileage may vary. Can't help you with any of the other setups, as I'm not too familiar with them, but I think almost all of the new GM rear disc stuff is very similar car to car.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Hot 66 and Elusive R and everyone that reads this post,

Please accept my apology. I'm sorry for coming off argumentative. By no means I wanted to sound like that. I was positive that I was right and I just wanted to state what I thought was fact. I have seen the front 98+ caliper and that was multi piston, but my memory confused the piston count for the rears. After seeing the pictures today you are right.

Thank you,
Kevin C

Kevinc, I didn't think you were being argumentative,
I just didn't want you to think that I was. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Kevin- I didn't think you were being argumentative, either. I hope I didn't sound that way as well. We all get confused sometimes, no biggie. Have a beer with me! graemlins/beers.gif

Derek - for the bracket part numbers you are looking for, have you tried here? (http://www.gmpartsdirect.com) If you search through the alternative catalog, it may list the part numbers you're looking for. If not, your local dealer should be able to get the part numbers for you, than you can buy them from the link above and get yourself a good deal. Best of luck!

that S-10 setup looks identical to the Impala SS/Caprice setup, but with the rotors drilled for the smaller bolt pattern.
anyone know what the bore sizes and rotor diameter are on the S-10 setup? i have the rear disc setup off my Caprice, but i need to find the proper rotors and smaller diameter caliper pistons to better match my front C4 brakes.

I'm running the 98 and newer camaro rear disc setup on my 66 chevelle. Everything bolted up perfect. I used rear brake cables from a Impala SS. Napa Part # was 94717 I believe. I had to get a inter. cable about 45" long I believe. I made my own "L" brackets that bolted to the lower shock mount to hold the E-brake cables. I found that the Impala SS cables (94-96), where the perfect length as far as mounting them in the stock chevelle brake cable holes. The actual cable itself though was longer, thats why I had to get a shorter inter. cable. I'm using a power brake booster with a 1 1/8 master. The napa part # is 39018 I believe. I bought my disc/disc prop. valve from MP Brakes. I'm very happy with the conversion.
