My old method of starting my car is getting more and more inconsistant. I live in Portland, Or and the Columbia Gorge sweeps in some might cold air. I have to crank her over quite a bit to get her started. Will a higher torque starter and a hotter coil do it for me? As of right now i have the stock coil (so it looks like) on there. What do you suggest I do in general, and if it is coil more specific suggestions there, if you will.

Oh yeah, its my daily driver, too. So i need it in the mornings...

Wes, I would give the "boo" a good tune-up first. New plugs,plug wires and points if you have them.Change the oil and filter and use 10w30 or 5w30 depending how cold it gets where you live.And make sure you choke works right.

Are you running a Qjet? If so, the well plugs might be leaking causing the gas to drain out of float bowl. Thus causing you to crank longer to fill the bowl.

You do have a choke and its working, right? If it is and you still have to pump the gas check to make sure your carb isnt leaking the fuel out of the bowl when it sits overnight, making it hard to start. If this is ok and the choke works ok make sure the accelerator pump is working like it should and your jetting is rich enough. With a good choke and good carb, should just have to pump it a couple of times to fire.
