Hi All, what shim stock material works best when making shims to stop brake squeal? I've seen brass and stainless steel shims on the back of front disc pads use to combat this annoyance from the Factory. And I've tried the goo that you put on the back of the pads, but they were only a temporary fix and the squeal was back in a few months. So anyone out there have a fix? Oh by the way the car has 1970 Monte Carlo front disc on it.

if it shimmies on brake application, you may need to turn the rotors or possibly replace them. Most of todays pads come with shims, if you have the rotors turned or replace them, I recommend new pads too.

What kind of pads are you using? I second the recommendation of new pads. Get some of the Quietstop pads and I'll bet you have no more problems. As far as what material, I've only seen sheetmetal shims on the backs of the pads...
