I'm getting my 70 ready to drop in a 496 bb
what is the ideal rear gear for a motor with monster torqe, I'm want tomake my car a street/more stip car seeing that the only time its ever out is to
case fords around :D its a weekend fun car

Need more info... what size tire you running out back... what are the specfic's on you motor (heads, cam, intake, etc.), what tranny and converter are you using? How good is your cooling system? There are a lot of ways to build a BBC. Generally a 496 isn't a high winder... so unless you are really built in the bottom end and have heads, intake, and cam to make the power up high I see no reason to wind it too high.

I have a 496 going in my chevelle and have selected 3.73's since I will be using a shot of juice in there (and I got the 3.73's cheap). I will fine tune by going between 28 and 30" tall tires.
