YEAH THEY CAN BE MADE TO WORK. Oh, there is the caps lock key. I must have inadvertently pressed it.

Search for tall spindle, 12" brakes, tall spindle brakes, or go the archive section and look up brake swaps. it has been discussed hundreds of times.
