I am looking for the buildsheet on my 138 SS 1968 El Camino. No luck so far. Anybody know where Fremont put them in '68? Thanks, Phil:confused:

Although mine was a LA car its BS was on top of the gas tank.

Guess I am SOL because my vapor barriers are long gone. Might have to drop the gas tank and drop the headliner to check those places.

Thanks, Phil

Seeing how they were not supposed to be left in the cars you would be lucky to find one. I would not tear the car apart looking for something that might not be there!

The reason you are not likely to find a build sheet prior to 68-69 models is because prior to that time they only would print what was needed from a master printer at the start of the main line, and tape it one to the front of the body and the chassis. So basically only about 2 existed per car. It was not until later that plants were modernized to equip all the workstations with teletype printers did they start to attach them to parts coming down the feeder lines (efficiency) and those are what you find laying in the cars now.

It took years to convert all the B-O-P and Chevy plants over to the GM Assembly Division and modernize the plants under one management.

why are you looking for your bs any way?peace of mind?
you already know you have a true SS with a 138 vin code.dropping the gas tank and checking there is not a hard thing to do.as far ripping into the headliner for some thing that might be there is a little much for me.if you have plans to restore it in the future i would wait until then.but that just me.good luck

I agree, but if there are non-original parts as far as interior or suspension, the buildsheet will show him what options the car originally had. If it's not critical, I wouldn't tear the car apart.
