Wanted to get a few opinions of those of you with different brands of shocks. I am looking for something that has a good ride that absorbs bumps well. However, since my springs are a bit worn and need replacing soon, I'd like a shock that is stiffer and limits body travel. I assume a stiffer shock would not absorb bumps that well. Opinions please.

I like my Edelbrock IAS shocks. My suspension mods are those, Hotchkis springs, B-body brakes, and a urethane front end. The difference is shocking. Stock puny front swaybar and no rear.

I have the good old fashon Monroe shocks all the way around on my 70. My 69 still has its original rear spiral shocks and a new set of AC Delco shocks up front. They both ride nice.

I have Monroe Sensatrac shocks on my 72. My suspension consist of new stock front springs, original rear springs with air bags in both rear springs with about 15psi in them, Polygraphite bushings and the original 1 1/4" front and 7/8" rear sway bars. It is a firm ride but it handles great and cruises nicely down the highway, it doesn't have that bouncy smooth as a cloud Cadillac ride but I like it. smile.gif

I'm running KYB's up front too..love 'em!! they aren't too harsh, and not too soft. Definately way better than stock.
I have some monroe air shocks in the back that are great too. haven't had any leaks yet (knock on wood)

I have Koni adjustables on my Lemans and they honestly are worlds apart from the KYBs, having used them too. They're a lot more expensive but the difference in operation is really dramatic. I have Bilsteins on the Chevelle, actually bought the shocks USED in 1996, repainted them, and they still work as good as new! They seem to have a ton of compression damping, so prepare for a stiffer ride if you choose to go with these.

What are the differences in the KYB Gas Adjust and the KYB GR2s?

I am looking for a nice smooth ride. Don't car too much about tight handling. Would the GR2 be a better shock?

Additional digging provided a response from KYB:

K Y B TECHNICAL AND CONSUMER Dept.
The GR-2 line is 10 to 15% firmer than oem. The GR-2 line provides a comfort ride with added rebound control

Gas-A-Just line is 3- to 40% firmer than oem.

The GR-2 would be better for a daily driver type of situation and the Gas-a-Just would be for more of a performance/handling situation.

I'm going with the GR-2s.

I've used both models from KYB.

- Gas-Adjust on a '72 Elk - performed well for over 3 years since installation until sold.

- GR2's on a '66 Malibu - too soft for this suspension setup with stock height springs and 2" drop spindles. I removed this approx. 2 mos. after installation and replaced them with Gas-Adjust's that worked fine for over 3 years...

I'll be installing Gas-Adjust on my '65 when I can book a Saturday at work... smile.gif
