My 66 Chevelle starter just has a weak click when key turned, took out and had tested at Advance and it worked, reinstalled and check wiring good to it (only two wires to it, Red from Battery and one to switch). Took switch out and try to "jumper straigt from the wire tabs on switch", still the same problem. Battery test good and tried Jumping car just in case. NO PROGRESS. Any help would be appreciated.

Got a DC voltmeter?

Check the voltage at the "S" terminal under load while turning key to the start position.

If you don't have 12 volts there, check at both sides of the neutral safety switch during key in start position.
Next, the ignition switch...

In other words, keep following the path back to the source until you find a spot where you do have 12 volts and where you do not have 12 volts.

YES, do have a voltmeter, will check the Neutral Safety switch. Never thought about checking it, but as i was reserching the site i noticed someone had an intermittent issue with similar problem and stated he found his Neutral safety switch was "gunked up". I also have a floor shifter as he did, so will check this "right now". Will keep you guys updated...thank you for the heads up!! Going "under" the steel now.

found have 12 volts from ignition switch (pink) to green wires on Neutral switch, but i cannot get the 12 volts on the other side of the Neutral switch no matter where i put the shifter at, or should it not come across?

Pink and green I believe are for the reverse lights.

Doesn't matter which position the shifter is in, you should have 12 volts under load on the purple wire when the key is in the start position.

Now the other side of the NS switch, the purple/white wire should have 12 volts under load only when the shifter is in the "P" or "N" position.

TY gents, sweating my A$$ here in FL trying to get the "beast" alive...after checking for 3rd time the neutral safety switch on the floor shifter, there are two set of 2 cables, one set is purple to which is on the back side of the switch and the other set is Green, when i put the ignition switch key to start and shifter on "P" or "N", i only get the 12V on the green wires, when i check the purples, "NADA", no matter where the shifter is at. I did notice the Voltage difference on the green wires if i move shifter to other than "P" or "N" then it goes to 0V or close to it. Can i assume this switch is bad and wont let me send "juice" to the starter? "BOY Its HOT out there and the worst is there is no shade!! LOL

pull the connector off the switch which has the 2 purples side by side.Turn the key to start
one wire should have 12 volts.Put a jumper wire straight across the purples.Than go to start while checking each purple. If you had 12 volts at the supply before you put the jumper in and now you have next to no voltage with the jumper wire than you may have a short to ground in the engine area purple.Of course if the car started with the jumper wire than the safety switch is bad.The important thing is do you have supply volts to the switch with the connector un plugged? post away i just fixed mine yesterday for the same type of problem.I just went threw all my wiring so every test you could do i did.I not only had a open at the pig tail connector to the switch in the console. The pigtail is right in the front section of the console. But i also had a short in my purple to ground intermittently and she would not crank after fixing the open at the pig tail. This would pull my volts down to almost nothing on the starter side of the safety switch in the console during testing.
