: Get a load of this!
kblock108 Sep 6th, 09, 1:36 AM So the day my 69 is ready to be picked up from paint, is the same day my wife had planned a trip to San Diego, to visit family and to take our newborn to her first zoo trip. Needless to say this trip had been planned for some time and you can never predict the whole car thing...I am running around becuase the wife said departure time is 430pm, so i am trying my best to get ready, knowing the car will be home when I get back and GAME ON :) I had dropped off my 2008 accord at a dealership to check a check engine light, no biggie I HAVE A WARRANTY :) At 330 they call me and say that they found the problem, a rat ate threw my gas tank hose and the whole assembly needs to be replaced, price of $850 and no love on the warranty question. Long story short I am taking it to a honda shop and they will throw in a used one for only $200, plus I can take it back to honda if I have any issues. Then it hits me, what about the chevelle if that is parked in the garage too??? I have a field behind my house and I have always seen mice, but come on! Now I have a bounty on all the mice locally, but keeping them out is going to be an issue. I have had glue traps in the garage, but I have not caught one lately (a lot in the past). I put them along the walls, but I am at a loss and god forbid they eat through my brand new wiring I am about to install. Below is a pic of the cars first night in bed :)

stroud6 Sep 6th, 09, 2:12 AM I hate mices to pieces. If you hear it, it sounds better. From the cartoon klondike kat. Sorry to hear about your problem. It looks like from the picture that you wont be having any rat problems(professional curtosy). You having a 396 and all. Nice car. Take care. Mark
second childhood Sep 6th, 09, 2:57 AM Go to the local pound and rescue a cat. They love mice for a snack. But they are stinky and some can do more damage than the mouse. I live next to a large field and my kittys seem to eat every thing. No mice in my house or garage.
Cameano Sep 6th, 09, 4:12 AM I had a pitbull mix that was an outstanding mouser. Only dog I had that didn't try to look at your finger when you pointed. He'd look at where you were pointing, and go fetch the mice. The pitbull/sharpei mix I have now is good with birds. I can hear them outside at his food supply, tell him "Spyke, get the bird!", and he's on 'em. One day he caught and killed six ringnecked pigeons.
f14tomcat Sep 6th, 09, 9:01 AM Nice '69 Ken, you gonna put a vinyl top on the car , or will it stay painted. I have a '69 that has a black painted top , from the factory,( you can see it on my profile) and I am thinking of putting a vinyl top on it. Just asking.....
Kinda looks like the white paint does not go down far enough for the chrome to cover the break, on the rear quarters.......may just be the way the pics look....
Nice ride, post some pics when you finish it.......

Les Saville Sep 6th, 09, 11:16 AM Get a little cardboard box and put a short length of rubber hose, a couple feet of insulated copper wire and a roll of toilet paper in it. They will go for it way before they go for your car.
If you don't have children or pets, add a few blocks of rat poison.

We have the same problem. But let me tell you how it can get even more interesting. The Bassboat stays in a small building and here come the mice. And now the snakes are coming for the mice in the boat. I really wish there was a better solution to those pesky little varmits. Maybe someone here will chime in but I have read where keeping music on in the shop helps. Dunno....
elco68 Sep 6th, 09, 1:08 PM A deep moat. And you must really trust those bycycle hangers.
cheveslakr Sep 6th, 09, 1:15 PM I used the d-con logs, worked great, killed at least 4 rats in and around the garage. I was lucky, they came in the doggy door and went for the house side of the garage and overlooked the convertible! I just throw one of these logs under each car, midway, just in case our australian shepherd thinks it's a dog-bone! Years ago I stored an 82 vette outside over the winter, the mice made a nest on the intake manifold and chewed every friggin wire within reach. I's a little upset when trying to start it the next summer.

Ricky, I am going to put the vinyl back on. I thought about it more than I cared to, but it basically came down to the fact that the car originally had one and since so many do not have one, I thought I would be different. I really wanted to be different too and paint my car red ;)
BUBBA2711 Sep 6th, 09, 1:48 PM Take a 5 gallon bucket and drill 2 holes towards the top large enough for the mice to fit through and insert a rod with peanut butter in the center. Fill the bucket halfway with water and make a ramp to one side of the bucket. The mice will drown trying to get the peanut butter. Best part is its reusable.

Good observation, but it is the picture. The paint actually is about 3 inches above the chrome molding rivits.

Food chain principle......mice feed the snakes, pot belly pigs eat the snakes, people eat the pig. Get a pig! :D

Actually, that's "I hate those meeces to pieces!". It's from the cartoon Dixie and Pixie. They were a pair of mice often antagonized by a cat called Mr. Jinks. Mr. Jinks is the one who says that.
I hired Orkin to control the mice at my house. Poison bait traps around outside of house, and sticky traps in garage and house in case the mice get past the bait traps. Cheaper than a cat or dog :)
You can buy the big bait boxes ($30/ea I think) on the internet as well as the sticky traps.
