: Question about balljoints in AFX spindles

Please disregard everything else that is wrong in this pic, because nothing is tightened down yet. My question is about the space between the upper ball joint boot and the spindle. Should I have this much space? The castle nut will not tighten down anymore. It is tight enough to get the cotter pin in but barely. These are the moog balljoints for a 67. Seems like alot of grease would come out the slot on the boot with this much space.

Contact Teetoe and ask him?

They may need to be reamed a schosh deeper so that the gap is smaller??

Tyler Beauregard, (aka TeeToe Jones), is good people.

Doesn't look correct. Is the weight of the car on the suspension yet? Did you tighten these by hand or via impact? Can you shoot me a pic of the lower taper insert?

The weight is not on the suspension yet and will not be for some time. They are hand tightened and will not move any more. The bottom ball joint boots are smashed way down and I only have them a little tight, but not torqued yet. The bottom ball joint came in the SPC lower arms. If you need another pic Tyler let me know. http://i687.photobucket.com/albums/vv237/317millhand/frame.jpg

Well, the lower taper is for sure the correct one, I can tell by the thickness of the flange. The upper ball joint or the upper insert in the spindle is incorrect. Try to put a 2nd gen F body upper ball joint in there and see if it fits better. If it does, the upper taper is 2.0 and not 1.5. If it fits the same, the Moog ball joint is not correct for an A body.

Ok, thanks. I'll give it a try and report back Saturday evening.

I had a little time today so I decided to try and figure this out. I came up with the conclusion that if i would have followed directions to start with I never would have had this problem. I think I found what the problem is. I installed the balljoint by putting the boot all the way down on the ball joint and then placing the metal retainer over it as shown in the second pic. . The ball joint came with the boot already on it so I just didnt remove it. I should have looked at the directions in picture 3 and I would have known to place the boot inside the retainer first (picture 1) and then place it over the balljoint. This lets the boot com out much much farther. I realized that I was doing something wrong after putting one if these AFX spindles on my stock arm and ball joint. I noticed that the balljoint was seating the same depth, but the boot was down alot farther. Ill chalk this one up as a dumb A$$ move on my part and move on. Im sure it wont be the last before this car is done. Thanks to all who chimed in. Now since I got the balljoints off again, I can paint the bare metal on them like I originally intended.
