The Venture Brothers (http://www.adultswim.com/video/?episodeID=8a2505951fae0a5d011fae3205a10055)
the story of Dr Thadius Venture- the son of the world's greatest inventor and adventurer- his two sons, and their body guard, Brock Samson. it takes up where shows like Scooby Doo and Johnny Quest left off. oddball hilarity ensues.
Metalocalypse (http://www.adultswim.com/video/?episodeID=8a25c392156a466f01156c90004c010b)
the story of Dethklok, the world biggest entertainment act- a heavy metal band whose record sales make them the 6th largest economy in the world. they are said to fulfill some sort of ancient prophecy, and are constantly being watched by a secret government agency. brutal metal hilarity ensues.

The Simpsons got repetitous, Family Guy got a little too far out in left field and the frirst and last episode we watched of South Park was the one where Jesus was playing quarters and they kept falling through his hands. The wife says never again on that show!
So I guess I'm in the I don't care group!

I picked Family Guy because I get the jokes that people who don't live here don't. :D

But I'll second Pinky and The Brain. Also, Ren and Stimpy and one that seemed like a kids show but often wasn't, Animaniacs.

No Robot Chicken?
that's not a cartoon.. it's a stop motion animation show. a very good one, at that. but not a cartoon.
if you were to include Robot Chicken, then Tom Goes to the Mayor might as well be thrown in- and i'm sure we can all agree that one should never mention Tom Goes to the Mayor. it is best to just let the memory of that show just go away, if it ever can...

So that you would know that I don't care.

Now that you do know, do you care that I cared enough to let you know that I don't care?

After I clicked on the topic and posted that I don't care I checked back in to see if there were others that also don't care.
I'm sure glad I checked back in so I could further explain my lack of caring and encourage other non-caring viewers to care enough to post that they don't care either. :beers:

As mentioned previously, if Metalocalypse was on the list, that'd get my vote....

But, all are great cartoons, albeit Simpsons 2000-up lost its touch. Matt Groening's magnum opus Futurama got my vote though cause its honestly more that just a hilarious cartoon. It's a shame it got cancelled, though the 'movies' are pretty good.

I could geek out and write an essay on this subject, but I'll show restraint to keep yall awake :boring:

I had to go with The Simpsons due to pure nostalgic value. I grew up watching it, and still enjoy watching it. Its not as pop-culture-centric as some others, but still a great watch.

the Simpsons IS pop culture, but hasn't been consistently funny for about 10 years. it was revolutionary when it came out, but even the old shows aren't as good today as they were when they first aired.

Matt Groenig almost got away from the Simpsons when he started Futurama, but Fox wouldn't let their cash cow die, so they shuffled Futurama around until they could justify killing it. there isn't a bad episode of Futurama, and some of them are just flat out tear jerkers- the one about Fry's dog is super sad, and the one about Fry's lucky 7 leaf clover is really deceptive until the very end, and just clobbers you with a surprise ending unlike anything else i've ever seen on tv. every episode has something like that, if you are looking for it and the entire series had some really cool story lines.
the Simpsons can be sweet and thoughtful, but it has never had any moments like that.

Yes, there is pop culture in it, but no where near the likes of Family Guy or South Park.

EDIT: I think I am getting "Pop Culture" confused with something that I can't quite think of the name of. I guess the best name I can give it right now, is modern/news references. Family Guy and South Park are very up to date. Hell, South Park had a Pirates episode a week after the USS Alabama incident.

Whereas The Simpsons lags pretty heavily, and lacks modern references.

Another vote for the Simpsons. It was tough because I watch Family Guy too. It will be intresting to see if this new spinoff show based on the Cleveland character turns out. Used to be a consistant watcher of South Park but lost track of it years ago and just kind of lost intrest.

I also enjoy American Dad as well. Never really cared for Ren & Stimpy back in the day. I did like Pinky and the Brain though and Beavis and Butthead from those 90s cartoons.

Does anyone remember, Batman the Animated series from the early 90s? For a cartoon, that was a fairly well written cartoon for adults. I watched that one all the time. And I was well into my 20s by that time.
