My proportioning valve melted. It was too close to my header and I didn't notice. graemlins/clonk.gif Now I have no brakes. Nothing. I have called junk yards, dealers, and friends and can't seem to find one. Does anyone know where I can get one? I've been told that they are not reproduced because they hardly ever go bad. It also looks like there are different kinds for different years of Chevelles. Anyone know? By the way, I have a '69.

Just want to make sure you have the term right ... Your proportioning (prop) valve melted from the headers?

If this is a stock setup, the proportioning valve is a tennis ball looking thing hangs underneath the master cylinder. These are just NOW being reproduced, and I've seen around $120.

If this is a stock setup, I suspect that your Distribution Block melted (though the first I've heard). It is mounted to the frame, in front of the body mount. This is not reproduced, but is identical to both disc and drum brake cars ... so finding one is easy.

If this is an aftermarket setup, mostly likely you have a combination valve (similar to all '71+ Chevy's). As far as an exact reproduction, I don't know ... but this what comes from the brake companies kits. They all sell them (MP Brakes, SSBC, Paddock, etc) ... I think they're usually ~$60.

Like Neal said, if this is a '69 stock setp, that is not really a prop valve. Do you have a picture of it? If it is just a standard distribution valve, I probably have a few laying around and could get one out to you.
