il_wolf_li Sep 4th, 09, 7:51 PM Just thought I'd introduce myself and see what you guy's have going on up here in the Northwest. My name is Brian Wolfe and I don't own a Chevelle but have been working with a few of them. Our little shop is located in Spokane, WA and is currently private with our business front being the internet. But if any of you guy's wanted to swing up by then let me know, we love to drink beer and talk cars. :D I look forward to meeting some of you guy's in person!
Our friends Chevelle he let us borrow as a test rig:

65lkey Sep 4th, 09, 8:10 PM I saw that twin turbo 71 video a while ago and noticed washington plates all I can say is WOW. Welcome to TCNW if i'm ever on that side of the mountains i'll be sure to look yah guys up
FRYNTYR Sep 4th, 09, 8:29 PM That's great, we'll have to take you up on the offer soon. I know Jim_D and I would love to come over and run SRP. That was my stomping grounds as a dumb teenager cruising riverside looking for unsuspecting future victims of my chevelle.
Jim_D Sep 4th, 09, 9:10 PM OK, I'm sold. Let's get that twin turbo setup on my car and get rid of that nasty nitrous.
Me and Darryl would love to come over to Spokane and race there. Heard there are some issues with Bucky and not paying contractors. Appears he could lose the track already.
BTW, welcome to the board.

That was my stomping grounds as a dumb teenager cruising riverside looking for unsuspecting future victims of my chevelle. The track finally has concrete to the 1/8 and is a lot cleaner than it used to be! Riverside unfortunately was shut down for cruising just before I was old enough to go cruising. Now the spot is Division (3-lanes both ways) with a bunch of parking lots to hang out in. The cops have a much harder time keeping a handle on things since it's such a large cruise spot. I haven't cruised in a few years now... Might have to hit it up one or 2 times here soon before the weather goes to crap.

That is an awesome looking car, whats the setup? Whenever your ready to go twin turbo just let me know and we can get you setup!
Yea, there is some issues going on with contractor's getting paid and the fingers are pointing everywhere from what I heard. I hope they get things figured out here soon... It's nice having a track that's 10 minutes away.
If you guy's are in the area and want to swing by or just need some information, feel free to hit us up.

1969 El Camino Dan Sep 4th, 09, 10:05 PM Looks like youse guys are some damn fine plumbers!!
Love that fabulous underhood shot!
I'll be up for a run to Spokane someday soon. Perhaps we should plan a spring fling over there next year.
May have the 454 '69 Malibu on the street by then.

Thanks. It has a 496 and has run a best of 9.25 but should be in the 8's (I will explain why in another post).
I think my compression would need to be lowered to do a turbo setup but I am looking at a much larger motor soon anyway.

Thanks, the system took a little while to figure out the pipe routing to make it as compact as possible.
A spring fling next year sounds like a good time, set it up to where everyone goes out to the track and races. You guy's don't mind if I bring my TT Chevy powered '93 Mustang do ya? It should be done this fall sometime... ;)
I'd love to check out your 454 '69 Malibu... nothing like the sound of a big block!

Gotcha, well we should hopefully have a turbo system for a big block in roughly a year or so. We are currently working on a twin turbo system for the LS series engine's. They are a very popular swap into the muscle cars and street rods.
You should build a 434ci sbc with a couple 72-76mm turbo's on it....1,500hp would be fun! :hurray:
Your going to be looking for about 8:1 - 9:1 compression for boosted gas motor. All of the motor's we have built so far fall right around 8.5:1.
il_wolf_li Sep 4th, 09, 10:42 PM This is my current project... 1993 Mustang Notchback street car (picked the car up for $5,000... just how it looks in the pictures *minus mockup engine and turbos)
-Mini-tubbed
-Braced 9" rearend with 35spline axles, 3.00 gears, Wavetrac diff.
-Coil-over suspension, anti-roll
-12-point cage (8.50 certified)
-Roughly 18 gallon fuel cell
-325/50R15 Drag Radials
-TH400 transmission (2,800 stall)
-Mild 383ci sbc (8.4:1 compression, forged internals, Procomp 190cc aluminum heads, single plane intake, 750cfm CSU blow-thru carb) **engine out of the blue chevelle in our video
-Wrenchrat 'Stage-2' twin turbo system with Turbonetics ball-bearing, water-cooled 66mm turbo's
In the video we had a N/A camshaft in it to represent what someone might already have in the car and it put down 820rwhp & 751rwtq @ 24lbs of boost. Since then we swapped to the proper turbo cam and once the Mustang is running we are going to crank the boost up to roughly 30lbs of boost and see what happens! We're curious to see if we can break a stock block with shear power (splayed 4-bolt), not from detonation. :D
Just threw some parts together for mockup:

And this is Steve's toy... FFR Shelby Cobra with roughly 1,100hp. It's been a best of 9.13@154 with a loose converter and running out of gear. Since SRP is now a NHRA track we can't run the car anymore to see how much we have picked up with our changes. It should run in the 8.70-8.90 zone on pump gas and those 17" drag radials.

Kevin R Sep 4th, 09, 11:32 PM Id be happy with a single turbo 355ci on some spray of course to spool the turbo:D
HHMM that would be a cool combo in a 64 Nova:yes:
Brettd85 Sep 5th, 09, 12:45 AM Hmm, very impressive stuff. How much to get a twin turbo setup for my 66? :D
primernovaben Sep 5th, 09, 1:09 AM welcome aboard. if i were to build a serious motor i would definitely want a twin turbo motor those things make serious power!!
1969 El Camino Dan Sep 5th, 09, 1:24 AM Brian,
The '67 - Les' car - it has a 'blow thru' system?
How's that work? What carb, mods, etc.
Looks like no intercoolers, either?
edit: end of vid guy says 1000 hp?!!?
Have you guys built turbo systems with 'juice'? I understand it acts as an intercooler of sorts as well.
What tips for ignition system before & under boost. I'd love to twin turbo the 454. I'd even send it over to Spokane and you guys can do your research on it!@@

cobaltchev67 Sep 5th, 09, 3:14 AM Impressive to say the least, very nice work. Been thinking about the BBC block in the garage....thought about twin turbos for it 2 days ago. If Dan sends his over as a test rat, I may be next in line after the bugs are worked out.
66 Buick Special Sep 5th, 09, 4:09 AM Holy Crap!
Those are some serious rides!
FRYNTYR Sep 5th, 09, 1:10 PM I would love to go t-turbos on something and have thought about it for a long time.
The "Goon" actually had the pleasure to be lined up next to that cobra at SRP. Vern (father-in-law) said "I'll always remember how fast he disappeared".

For the carb. we have been sending everyone over to CSU carbs ( www.csucarbs.com ). They do some crazy changes on the internals, we've purchased a few of them and they were tuned almost dead on. This is who we recommend everyone go to for blow-thru carbs, they will build your carb to your setup. They are usually 4-6 weeks out but well worth the wait. If you want to try and modify your own carb... http://www.hangar18fabrication.com/blowthru.html
The car set on kill will make around 1,000hp with that little 355ci sbc. The engine is currently out of the car getting a cam swap since he had more of a 'blower cam' in it. With an extremely loose converter and wrong cam it put down 713rwhp... Once back together it should lay down somewhere in the 800+rwhp range. We are showing 25-28% drivetrain loss through an automatic with our dyno's up here...
Yes, nitrous and turbo's are like 'peanut butter & jelly'... It acts as an awesome intercooler and can be used to spool the turbo's quicker. It will give that extra exhaust energy to really get those turbo's rolling. Depending on the setup turbo V8 guy's have seen a 125-150hp gain out of a 75hp shot of nitrous.
For a street/strip ignition I really like the MSD Programmable 6al2 since it is around $320-390 depending on who you go through and it has the essential 'boost vs. timing' control. I have no actual hands on experience with it yet but I've heard some really good things. It's pretty much a stripped down version of the 'Programmable Digital-7 Plus' ($820) which is a track only ignition system, they have had problems with them getting to hot and failing on the street.
http://www.msdignition.com/Products/Ignitions/6530_-_MSD_Digital_Programmable_6AL-2.aspx
Advanced PC programming for use on street/strip and track cars
PC Programmable with easy-to-use Windows based Pro-Data +Software
Plot a timing curve based on boost pressure down to a 0.1° every 100 rpm
Program three rev limits in 100 rpm increments
Step retard for nitrous applications plus a boost timing map
Capacitive Discharge technology for high voltage and spark energy
For a coil your looking for something with at least 300 milliamp's such as the MSD Blaster SS Coil. Need to make sure you can fire off those spark plugs under extreme boosted conditions. A crank trigger would also be nice if you have the money to spend but not necessary.
When we get going on the Big Block turbo setup I'll let you know if we need a test rig!

A big block with a couple turbo's is going to make some crazy power numbers... Can't wait! :D

Thanks! We've learned a lot on that Cobra and the Mustang is unfortunately taking a little longer than expected... Which I'm sure none of you would know what that's like. lol

That's cool your father-in-law remembers the car. To bad we can't make anymore full passes in that car... I wanted an 8 second slip!
