I did a search but didn't come up with alot of info... I have the opportunity to possibly get the disc brakes/spindles/whatever off of a '95 LT1 camaro that was unfortunately ruined by fire and is being parted out.

Assuming the parts are good, how much of it might be useable on the chevelle? I'm thinking cheap disc brake conversion...maybe even the spindles would be useful? I have a '69 Malibu with 4-wheel manual drums.
I've been researching suspension/brake upgrades for a long time, and wanted a Baer 4-wheel kit, but this could be an inexpensive way to get better braking in the meantime.

thanks!

Brian,

I just parted out a '94 LT1 Z28 and this is what I found. The front spindles won't be any good for your Chevelle. It is a strut type front suspension with double A-arms. In other words the front spindle is about 18" tall. The front discs should be 12" hat type rotors and single piston calipers. The are similar to the 13" brake conversion that Joe is doing, just smaller. Joe's page (http://www.geocities.com/diels12000/Brakes.html) The rear brakes are PBR calipers and are similar to the aftermarket brakes that are offered. They would be a good grab. Tony, aka 1966_L78 has this type of setup, but he ran into a few problems with rims I think. Hopefully he will pipe in with his $.02. I would definatly grab the rears and possibly the MC also if it is still good. The MC should be a quick take up type and it should be a 1" bore.

Good Luck.

thanks for the reply!
I imagine the MC could be damaged by the fire that totalled the car. It started in the engine compartment.
I'm definitely going to get those calipers, and I'll probably get thespindles and any mounting parts too, just to have them for reference as to how the stuff mounts up.

I may also try to get the transmission out of it. It's an LT1 car, so it should be somewhat compatible with my old 307, or any SBC.

If the fire was in the engine compartment then there isn't likely to have much good there. The '94 that I got hit a house. I got the LT1 but the block is broke and the transmisssion was destroyed. graemlins/sad.gif
