: College football takes a punch to the face...
chevelledude71 Sep 4th, 09, 3:49 PM Last night after the BOISE ST and OREGON game. The Oregon RB that said, "we owe this team an a## whoopin'"...actually punched a guy in the face.
So much for the SPORTSMANSHIP flag being waved in the NCAA this year. It's off to a bad start.

I'm sure he faces a pretty good suspension.
the heckler Sep 4th, 09, 4:05 PM what a cheap shot. they should kick him out of school and never let his nasty *** back on any ball field.....
Elcoman Sep 4th, 09, 4:14 PM Is he "Roid raging?":D
chevelledude71 Sep 4th, 09, 4:41 PM I'm not sure if he's raging from Roids or he was just really, really disappointed that HE got his a## kicked on the field. At one time he had 9 rushes for -1.9 yards. :)

l:)
He needs to think about a different sport.:D
cheveslakr Sep 4th, 09, 5:05 PM All the local media wants him off the team in a hurry!
Jerry
chevelledude71 Sep 4th, 09, 5:07 PM l:)
He needs to think about a different sport.:D
On SC this morning, one of the broadcasters said that he talked to an NFL GM and he said that this guy went from a possible 2-3rd rounder...to not being drafted at all. Now that's only one GM, but he could have done himself in with this...
No worries, an NFL team will pick him up. :)
Definitely should be off the team. Unacceptable conduct.
Elcoman Sep 4th, 09, 5:12 PM I would say "what a waste of talent", but he rushed for -1.9 yards.:D It might be the o-lines fault, but a good back should be able to find holes. Unless your Marion "The Barbarian" Barber, who makes his own holes.:D
chevelledude71 Sep 4th, 09, 5:15 PM "University of Oregon Head Football Coach Chip Kelly has announced that senior running back LeGarrette Blount will be suspended from the Ducks' football program for the remainder of the season following his involvement in a post-game incident after Thursday night's 19-8 loss."
Kelly said the suspension would remain in effect through any bowl games the Ducks may play in.
Kelly emphasized that Blount will remain a part of the school’s football program and remain on scholarship throughout the remainder of the year. Blount will continue to have access to all of the university’s support services provided to all student-athletes, will be allowed to take part in all team activities, including practice with the team, and will be held accountable to all team rules and regulations. However he will not be allowed to participate in any games.
Blount rushed for 1,002 yards a year ago and established a school record with 17 rushing touchdowns."
According to their website, he rushed 8 times for -5.0 yards. OUCH!
Why suspend the guy, but let him do everything else afforded to those that do the right thing? Oh well..he won't get a chance to sucker punch anyone else.
No worries, an NFL team will pick him up. :)
Yep.
An NFL team picked up that scum bag Michael Vick and gave him a multi-million dollar contract.
Some team will pick up this chump also.
That was nothing but a cheap sucker punch.
Watching that video sort of put me in mind of the great Ohio State coach, Woody Hayes, when he punched an opposing player, on live TV, during the Gator Bowl after an interception.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEVJyf0ft3I
Woody Hayes was older and the "punch" to the linebacker was pretty harmless, but it ended Woody's career.
This incident should also end LeGarrette Blount's career...but I'm sure it won't.
Regards,
-Greg
chevelledude71 Sep 4th, 09, 5:36 PM As it should have.
Desmond Howard said that Houtt went out of his way to get Blouts attention. Glad someone else had a point of view and had the opportunity to give Blout a reason.
Andy69 Sep 4th, 09, 6:23 PM glad they suspended him for the season. they should have kicked him off the team.
chevelledude71 Sep 4th, 09, 6:25 PM I agree, but he's kept on scholarship and can practice and use the facilities. I guess this is Oregon's way of giving him "support"?
markfromark Sep 4th, 09, 7:23 PM What a coward... wait until the guy looks away, cheap shot him, and the backpedal outta there before someone got hold of him.
If they squared off toe to toe and went at it, then that's different. Because of his girly hit-him-while-he-ain't-lookin' punch, I'd say he's lucky he didn't get charges pressed against him.

Doing this gives the team and the university to continue to monitor him and discipline him as needed. He still has the chance to complete his free education and make some sort of different career for himself. I'd say he might have a career in boxing but judging from the video he would through one punch then run away like a coward.
glad they suspended him for the season. they should have kicked him off the team.
I agree, should be off the team forever. Maybe the NCAA will step up and ban him.
Les Saville Sep 4th, 09, 9:18 PM 2010 first round draft choice for the Eagles? :D
JeffB Sep 4th, 09, 9:26 PM That was bad but the guy had no business in his face taunting him like that. The Oregon Duck, basically, was kicked off the team but the guy doing the taunting should be suspended for two/three games.
markfromark Sep 4th, 09, 10:21 PM If I read the whole story right, the Oregon dude ran his mouth before the game... so I figger the guy who mouthed him afterwards was just reminding him of what he said pre-game. He shouldn't have done it - agreed on that - and should also be reprimanded for initiating contact AFTER the game. But I can definitely understand his motivation if the above is accurate.
daveseitz Sep 4th, 09, 10:23 PM No Blount should be jailed on a hate crime, he hit a white guy who had no helmet on. Blount left his helmet on the entire time, showing it was a premeditated action.
72ElCamino Sep 4th, 09, 11:00 PM After seeing it 1000 times its sure looks like Boise state kid make a smart remark first. Between his cocky smile and his coach running over to pull him away to talk to him.
I wanna know what the Boise state kid said to be honest.
I agree with the suspension of the Oregon player, mainly because me had a melt down all the way to the locker room.
Matt
chevguy65 Sep 4th, 09, 11:34 PM It is a crying shame.
The kid needs to get his anger in check.
I doubt he is as bad a kid as portrayed and yes I am one of the biggest BSU supporters.
But this kid is young, full of piss and vinegar and felt that they (Oregon) would come here and kick our asses.
It was not a pretty game but BSU is 65-2 at home since 2000 and I know why, the blue is intimidating. That and we have a very good coaching staff and a great team.
OK, back to the topic...this kid was to amped up, to let down and to angry. His coach should have held him from going out onto the field after the game knowing he has a propencity for violence.
Now his college career is over.
But he will be drafted and I just hope he gets his emotions under control before then.
Other than a chicken **** thing to do, I can almost understand what drove him to it and harbor no hard feelings toward this kid and I doubt our team does either.
chevguy65 Sep 4th, 09, 11:36 PM I wanna know what the Boise state kid said to be honest.
It really shouldn't matter but it was along the lines of, "hey nice ass kicking" in response to Blounts remark that Oregon owed BSU an "Ass Whoopin'".
cheveslakr Sep 4th, 09, 11:38 PM It really shouldn't matter but it was along the lines of, "hey nice ass kicking" in response to Blounts remark that Oregon owed BSU an "Ass Whoopin'".
If he didn't finish with the "kicking" it would have been justified.
Jerry
pnugene Sep 5th, 09, 12:37 AM Blount had NO business throwing the punch, and yes he's a coward. The Boise kid also had no business seeking him out to taunt either. In my view the Boise kid outta sit out a couple games. I'm old enough to remember the really old-school college coaches who absolutely wouldn't tolerate taunting and acting out by their players, or all the BS celebrations after a score. More than once I saw a kid ride the bench after some foolishness on the field. I remember a line from Bear Bryant that was something like this: Men, I want you to play with some class and make your mamas proud of you. When you cross the goal line, act like you've done it before.
bdbaggr Sep 5th, 09, 1:36 AM they are both punks, houtt and blout, talkin smack after beating a team is bush, act like youve done it before. blout's career is over at or. he's a senior, his last year of eligibility. football is a violent game, tempers and emotion runs high, anyone that has ever played at a high level knows this, and men can be brutal( i know none of you all out there ever blew a fuse for much less) we expect players to hit and fight all game and turn it off like a switch? cant do it all the time.he will now carry that allways, and houtt? what a little back biter to run up and push him and taunt, he got his due as well and he wont live that down. oh well its got us all talkin so there you have it, beats talkin politics.
SebJr Sep 5th, 09, 8:35 AM 2010 first round draft choice for the Cowboys :D
 ;)
Pitbully Sep 5th, 09, 11:41 AM This kid if he ever gets to the NFL will have troubles there too. I wont watch him.
Elcoman Sep 5th, 09, 3:52 PM I was waiting for Seb to throw the Cowboys in this thread.:D It took a day, he was probably busy reading the Rustang forums on how to fix his Rustang.:D
Les Saville Sep 5th, 09, 3:58 PM  ;)
No..no...we are the Dallas Goodboys now, no more rehab....
Eagles have taken our place as the dept. of corrections.....
Rich-L79 Sep 5th, 09, 8:50 PM Yeah, and I remember Joe Paterno trying to take a poke at the opposing coach who accused him (fairly) of running up the score during the after game handshake. With some coaches showing behavior like that it's no wonder some of the kids get the wrong impression.
If this kid's smart, he'll stick around and finish his degree and get what good he can still get out of a bad situation.
chevelledude71 Sep 5th, 09, 9:22 PM I remember that and he's not the only coach that runs up the score. That's the norm in CFB now-a-days. Florida has done it for years to name one.
Rich-L79 Sep 5th, 09, 9:32 PM Sure, coaches have been accused of running up the score for years, but as I recall this was a point spread of something like 60 points and PSU had their first string still in at the end of the game. The opposing coach made some remark that Joe Pa had no right to humiliate his players like that and by leaving his 1st string in. He had a point if you ask me.
It certainly doesn't help now-a-days that BCS standings are at least partially calculated on margin of victory.
chevelledude71 Sep 5th, 09, 9:35 PM I totally agree with you...especially being a fan of many teams running the score up on my favorite team. :(
Elcoman Sep 6th, 09, 6:37 PM Update:
Blount called and apologized to Boise.

chevelledude71 Sep 6th, 09, 7:23 PM To LATE!! But, he'll be ok, the NFL will welcome with open arms. .......................... Rich, I thought the MOV was done away with?
Rich-L79 Sep 6th, 09, 8:10 PM Rich, I thought the MOV was done away with?
In the BCS calculations? You may be right. The fact that it was ever in there at all was entirely sending the wrong message.
