Has anybody here done this conversion?
www.buffnet.net/~airrj/CBB%20Construction.html (http://www.buffnet.net/~airrj/CBB%20Construction.html)
Those 1.25 thick 12 " rotors are cool.
I checked here www.rockauto.com (http://www.rockauto.com) and you can get
the rotors drilled and sloted for 50.00 bucks new.
The calipes were in the teens, you can't get it cheaper
than that!.
I wonder how hard would it be to get the vett calipers of the same year as the rotors to fit.
Any thoughts
Thanks

Unfortunately I can't say that I have. graemlins/clonk.gif But I am very close. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

That is my sit that you posted, and I haven't actually used the brakes yet. They are done, just need to be bleed and driven. And I got all of my info from BC here on Team Chevelle. If you search back about a year and a half back for BC you should find his posts about it.

I haven't updated my pasge in a while and so there are a few things missing. If you are really interested in doing the swap I can finish up the page and give you some more tips. And you are right the 12"x1.25" rotors are really cool. And they will fit under a 15" rim and they are much cheaper than the 13" Vette brakes.

RJ,

Does anybody make a bracket/adapter to mount a different caliper (maybe an aluminum PBR or ??) on the tall spindle (modified is okay) and fit the older Vette rotors? One thats available separately, and not part of a complete brake kit...

I just had those hubs (yours) out last weekend, but I am now thinking that those big old iron suburban calipers don't look too high tech... Thought about those new replacements calipers ( (Stainless Steel Brakes? Force 10?), but don't know if I really like their look versus their cost...

I also was thinking of the PBR/early-90's F-body rears, and wanted to keep everything similar...

I have thought about Joes C5 setup, but $$???

Of course, I know I can find a decent master cylinder for a manual application with the old suburban calipers...

I have no idea what I am really thinking. I guess just seeing if theres anything new and interesting with the CBB setups...

R.J I think your system is one of the best and
easiest to do. When I get some time I will start
getting all the parts to do it like you. Those calipers
should clamp that rotor like a Bear!! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
They may not look like PBR but you can't argue with the price of those calipers.
But if you have wheels that show the rotor you may look
into a different caliper. I have welds can't see. Hey that picture looking down on that lake I have it as a wall paper THANKS.

Tony,
You just can't beat the iron moraine caliper setup for both price and parts availablity. They win hands down too in the clamping load.

I just wish the were lighter to reduce unsprung weight.

If I had the time I wouldn't mind trying the original PBR's I started out with on the C5 swap (bigger pistons than the C5 calipers) and running the 1LE rotor on the tall spindles.

I think that swap would be interesting.

Thanks Joe...

I was thinking last night (actually dreaming!), and thought I will probably just continue planning the CBB a la RJ and BC (HD Suburban front calipers, 63-82 Vette rotors, 68 Vette manual master cylinder, fab'd hubs, tall spindles, etc)...

I am thinking I will buy rebuilt calipers, and dismantle them, powdercoat the exterior and then reassemble... Should "Look" okay then...

I guess I can use the Cadillac/Trans Am setup out back too, as it should match pretty well...

Tony,

I have never really check into other calipers for the tall spindle. I took my calipers and painted them with POR-20. It has a semi-shinny grey color. I haven't heated them yet to 'bake' the finish, but they should look ok. I know what you are saying about the look of the brakes. When I started this swap I had 15" steel rims. Now I have 17" and 18" Vette rims. I need to work on the 'WOW' factor. Oh wait, I need to work on the drive it down the road factor first. graemlins/clonk.gif

If you run those iron moraine calipers you might think about stepping up from the series "52" pads to the A614's (I think that's what they are graemlins/clonk.gif ). This will reduce your lining pressure on the pad especially if you are running the bigger piston calipers.
