I recently acquired a power steering gear box from a 68 GTO which I want to put on my car, however do I need to look for a pump from the same year or will the pumps from newer Chevelle's
(71,72 etc..) interchange. I was wondering if the hoses had the same type connections.
Thanks
Scott

The hose connections are 45 degree flare with 5/8 and 11/16 nuts. They will connect right up. GM went metric o-ring end fittings starting in 1980. The pressure and flow output from your original pump is probably sufficient.

later pumps may interchange but the 68 uses the short water pump with a different bracket set than the 69 up cars..that is if you are still running an original style setup.

Thanks for the info ,my engine is a mid-seventies 350 with long water pump, since I'm converting from manual steering I'll be looking for a pump and brackets & wasnt sure what year they went to the metric fittings.
Thanks again
