I have drum brakes with no brake booster. Im wanting to add just a brake booster but wasnt sure exactly whats involved. MP has a kit for $389 that is the booster and MC. Is it cheaper to just go to an auto parts store and buy a mc and booster or is the MP kit the way to go.

Should be cheaper at the parts store. I think $100 something for a master and booster. It'll be rebuilt, don't know if the MP units are new or not.

I also had a master and booster to give as a core. That'll effect the price.
