: Grand cherokee conversion leaking

I installed a Grand Cherokee steering box using the adapters from Lee Mfg. The steering improvement is great but there is a leak at the steering box high pressure connection. I rechecked and the fitting is tight. To solve this leak I would like to have a hose custom made to fit my existing PS pump and the GC steering box. To have a hose custom made I need to know the specs for the steering box fitting.

Specifically, the shop that will make the hose asked for:
Thread size
Thread pitch
Kind of seat
Tubing size

Does anyone know this info?

Upon closer inspection, the leak is in the return/low presssure fitting (the smaller of the two fittings). Does anyone know the sprecs for that fitting?

That's why I use the stock GC lines and just change the fitting on the end of the line that goes into the pump.

you should be able to get hoses from a mid 80's Monte Carlo- that would have had the O-ring style fittings on the steering box, and they should be just the right lenght and have the right bends in it for any chevy v8

Grab a return hose fitting and tube in the boneyard off most anything made after 1980. If too long, cut it shorter and use the first step of a double flare to put a little bump on the end of the tube to keep the hose from sliding off. Jim.

I would think most parts stores can get the return hose connector and tube.

Is it possible you mixed up the lee adapters? there is a slight difference in the two, if you mixed them up it may be the whole problem.

I removed and reinstalled the return fitting and it appears that the leaking has stopped. Maybe a little trash was in the threads or something?

If you check an old post of mine from this spring, I put a GC box into my 70. I didn't like the "design" of the Lee conversion fittings, so I purchased both fittings directly from PARKER which have the correct metric thread and O-ring. From there my local NAPA made a hydraulic hose with standard fittings (JIC 37 connection, female) which bolted right up, leak free. Last, they have another standard fitting for the 3/8 steel tubing with a ferrule, so I used a tubing cutter to chop the original end off my Malibu hose and assembled with the ferrule compression fitting. Went together excellent, and I was able to rotate all the hoses to get it to lay perfect. I'm attempting to attach the picture of the finished deal... While this isn't the cheapest way to go, it works for me and is perfectly leak free! (Couldn't find a pic with both hoses from the top, so just the GC box and one fitting shown without hoses).

I had the same problem on the first conversion I did. It appeared it was leaking between the box and the frame and it was dry around the fittings. Finally I just kept tightening the clamp on the return line and it stopped.
