I recently bought a 70 that currently has drum brakes. The person I bought the car from gave me a set of spindles and calipers that he swears were removed from a Chevelle. They don't look right to me, but I'd appreciate everyone's opinion. The casting number is 3963994, date code L 6 1. I've also attached a link to a picture.

Thanks for your help!
Jim

That might be from a Chevelle, but it is not likely to be a direct fit on any '72 and earlier. The ones that would have been on your car in '70 have a stamped caliper bracket that bolts to the spindle. Yours is cast in place and is a later model part. There is info on putting later model spindles and brakes on your car. This is frequently called the "tall spindle conversion". I have no idea which car that spindle in the photo came from. For more info, do a search on "tall spindle" .

It appears to be a 74 Malibu (not a Chevelle anymore), ummmmh, ........and it came from a dark blue 2 door, 305 automatic....... ;)

No I'm not a a "mystic", but I do have a similiar set on my 70 Chevelle. It is a mid 70's spindle identifiable becuse the caliper mount/steering arm/spindle are all cast together. Tall Spindle swap.

It will bolt on, IF YOU HAVE THE MID 70's LOWER BALL JOINT MACHINED TO FIT YOUR STOCK ARM, then use a mid 70's upper ball joint.

I used 74 Camaro ball joints.
