I dropped off spindles and steering knuckles to get coated. When I got them back today some coating is in the sleeves for the tie rods/ ball joints in a few spots...

A) Do I leave it?

B) Do I remove it? If I should remove, what is the best method? Blasting the sleeve, grinding/ polishing with a cone disc, or is there another method?

Thanks

I had the same problem and scored the powder coat with a razor blade and used a pick to get it out. It also will melt out bout you will have to be careful not to damage the ajoining surfaces. Removes easier when warm.

Take it back and have them do it right.

Pretty much normal for most powder coaters. It is not that hard to remove, just take an Exacto knife, and it will scrape out pretty good. Follow up with a cone shaped sanding sleeve in pretty fine grit (240 or greater). I now do all my own blasting, plugging and masking before I take stuff in. All they have to do is the iron phosphate and the powder. It just makes life a whole lot easier!

I guess you should run a tap through your tie rod sleeves to cut the coating out.
