I am going to be boxing in my stock rear trailing arms this weekend with 1/8 inch steal,Will the top arms (shorter) still flex do to the fact that they spread out at the ends so i can't box them in toataly like the lower ones or will this still provide enough strength to keep them from flexing.Trying to stop some slick chatter and i don't want to spend $647 bucks for the hotchkins arms kit, So thought i would go this way and save some bucks, since it is not serious wheel hopp thought this might help. graemlins/clonk.gif

I think you will see a lot of benefit from boxing just the lowers. There was some thread on here about some '70 cars that had just one (drivers side I think) boxed on the top from the factory, to prevent twist. I think the uppers will flex, because Look at all of the aftermarket parts, boxed uppers, spherical bushings, etc. to replace the originals. While you have them out, you might want to replace the bushings because if they are worn, it will cause nasty wheelhop. Just my .02

I boxed both my upper and lower on my 68 and installed polygraphite bushing and have not had any hop or chatter.

I have bought new bushings for them to install since they will be out might as well.I bought the steel to do both uppers and lowers so hopefully there will be a diffrence i just could not see spending the money for the name brand stuff. The bushings are stock type i did not but the poly ones but i guess new is better than dry rotted ones.

The uppers operate under tension not compression so they don't flex. No real need to box them.

You might want to return the rubber bushings, because the poly bushings are a big reason for the improvement that a lot of the boxed control arms give you. I installed the poly bushings in stock arms, and that alone cut down the wheel hop to almost none. Personally, I think it would be a waste of time to install the rubber bushings. The arms will still flex at the bushing, causing some deflection that will probably cause wheel hop.

I have boxed in the arms and now i am starting to replace the bushings,The bigest reason for not putting in the polys is Money i got a good discount on the rubbers so i went that way figured if it didnt work completely than later when i had money i would buy the polys , I like to take my car apart anyway so its no big deal to do it , to me.
