All,

After bothering quite a few of you with incessant questions over PM, I think I have the knowledge necessary to properly lower by '69 Malibu and equip it with a nice set of wheels. Here's what I'm thinking.

Please tell me if you see any problems/issues and anything else you might care to offer about this set-up. I want to be sure to avoid any rubbing issues, and want as decent a ride as possible to cope with the lousy streets around the DC metro area. Brakes will be the next project, followed soon by an SBC engine swap. Thanks in advance!

Suspension:
F&R OPGI 2" lowering springs
Edelbrock IAS Classic shocks F&R
SC&C Street Comp Stage I
OPGI 1 1/8" front sway bar (installed last weekend)

Wheels/tires:
Front -- 18" Coy's C5 18x8, 4.5" backspacing, 245/40-18 General Exclaim UHP
Rear -- 18" Coy's C5 18x9.5, 5.5" backspacing, 275/40-18 General Exclaim UHP

Cheers,
Jason

You'll like the Edelbrock IAS shocks,I have them on my '70 Z/28 and they are very nice,all-around.
Wheel/tire selection is certainly on the 'safe' side, everything else looks like a solid base to me.

John,
Thanks for the reply. As I believe many here would attest to, your ride has been a source of inspiration, even though it is a different year than mine.

If this is a "safe" plan, what would be a notch above? How could I push this a bit while avoiding any of the common issues of driveability, comfort, etc that can quickly crop up?

I don't want to pull the trigger on this set-up only to be saying "I wish I would have..." once it's all installed.

Thanks again,
Jason

Well if you are set on Coy's,that might limit you to widths/backspacing,but you can easily squeeze a 18x9 front (275/35) and a 18x10 rear (295/35 or 305/35) w/o issues.

The wheelwells on these cars are larger than those on Camaro's and need to be filled up.
Have you considered Vintage Wheel Works wheels?I love the V-40's & V-45's on 1968-'69 Chevelles,go to their galleries and check out customer cars...especially the Green one with V-40's.

Well, my preference is for Rushforth Super Spokes, titanium center with polished hoops, similar to what you had on your '70. I personally love the exposed hardware. But even with the GP going on, they are still out of my price range.

Thanks for the advice. I'll take a look at those galleries.

Wow...that's a truly horrible experience. Thanks for making that site. Too bad i like their wheels so much for my project. I'd rather not support a vendor who does business that way.

Not the first horror story I've heard about Coys, plus your dealing with waiting for the boats to come ashore from China with centers...

Am now considering a set of Rocket Boosters in gray.

Only drawback is they don't come in anything wider than 9".
