Was there ever a factory bbc 366 installed in a 1968 chevelle?? I just bought an old race car that needs a lot of work. body is perfect needs all interior. The fender emblems have 366 on them. Can any one tell me if this is possible back in the day of super cars..

Thank you for all your input everybody, American Muscle rules

366 is a farm/dumptruck tall deck motor, not offered in cars.

Not to be a wiseacre or anything, but are you sure it's not 396? A 366 is like Jeremy said, a tall deck big block truck engine. Commonly found in c50, c60 and c70 Chevy and GMC trucks. About the only useful thing would be the forged crank and possibly the rods. The rest is good for a boat anchor. You can check the block casting numbers at Mortec.com to verify what it is for sure before condemning it.

Yeah, the SS366, very rare car, originally configured in the 2 door hardtop variety and morphed int a 4 door hardtop after heavy towing. :D

Thanks for you guys for all of your input. Check out the picture of the car. I bought this thing for a project for my nine year old son and I. Hopefully I get it done befor my boy is 16. There is no rust at all and the body is very straight. I have had muscle cars in the past but nothing that needed a total resto, should be alot of fun. What do you guys think shoud I find a big block or do the small block. I want something really fast and mean sounding. The chevelle also needs all the interior, so its time to go hunting.

thanks everybody

Nice start for a project, atleast you don't have to be in a hurry...
Very unusual front fender emblem.....
Now it looks like you will have to find a 366 BBC to put under the hood...LOL
Good luck with the car and I hope you and your son spend a lot of time together on it.

Those are not Car factory emblems from what I see. Does the VIN start with 136 or 138? I am betting it is 136 car due to the side molding. Interior can be had reasonable but if you are missing little items expect the price to keep climbing. Try to find an original dash pad as the reproductions supposedly do not fit well. SBC or BBC can be made to sound mean and be reasonably fast  Looks like a good project

I thought the '68 SS cars had the side molding....?

The SS396 side molding continues past the rear wheel well. Malibus did not in 68.

as you know by now 366 did not come in cars. the emblem is home made
some dirt track racers here in the south use to use bus/truck engines for racing back in the 60s and 70s
