: AO vs. YA wheels?

Hey guys... I really like the look of the AO/YA wheels, and I am looking for a set for my Skylark. My question is are there any noticeable differences between the YA/AOs besides being produced in '69-'70, and '71-'72? I thought I read somewhere that the '71 only wheels were either painted or chrome, or maybe i am confusing that with the Olds SS1s.

I am really partial to these wheels over the Buick Rally wheels (my dad had Magnum 500s on his Challenger-that could be why). The AO/YA/SS1 wheels were manufactured by the same vendor that did the Magnum 500 for Ford and Mopar, and these wheels are the only wheels besides the stamped steelies that all the large car makers all had identical versions of.

My other question now, is do I get the YA/AO with a set of redline tires from Cocker, or do I go for the 17"x10" American Racing Halibrands?? Decisions, decisions... Either way, the '79 Camaro Turbines on there now have to go!

First, the YA/AO code SS wheels are indentical stampings and none of these were produced for Chevys after the 70 model year. Olds had a full chrome version in 14x6 from 67-69. Then Olds had a 14x7 from 70-72 that had satin chrome spokes with the rest of the wheel painted satin black. Olds had a full chrome 14x7 that was only available on the 71 models. I like this style of wheel myself and you can go with aftermarket 15's and you have a choice of tires. I actually do like the chrome Buick rallys and was going to have a set of 15x8's or 10's made. Going with these will probably be cheaper than the AR wheels and tires but will not be quite as flashy or unique. In the end nobody else can make this decision for you. You will need to decide if you want a more stock appearing look or the more individual look of the 17's!

That sounds right... I remember reading (on here?) that the AR500s required a pricey spacer set, but eh, I could be wrong. I would totally love the AR500s on my car!

I have tried to find sizing and pricing for the AR500 several times in the last year or 2 and I could not get any info. Hopefully they come out cheaper than the Wheel Vintiques version!
