: Washers on Spindles?

I just installed new P-S-T upper and lower ball joints and my new Superior Spindle 2-inch drop spindles. The manual that I have said to torque the upper to 90 lb-ft and the lower to 125 lb-ft max. When I did this I noted that the hole for the cotter pin on the lower ball joint is above the castellations on the nut. The upper is fine. Were the seats on the spindles cut too deep? ShouldI place some flat washers between the spindle and the nut to raise it. If I put the pin in the way it is, it is not in the nut sections and will back out some. Or should I just back it off until the cotter pin hole is in the appropriate location?

Any help would be appreciated. This is my first time doing this and it is also my first post.

Thanks in advance!

I don't think that the cotter pin is a huge problem. It's there as a last resort, not to keep the nut from turning in the first place. But then again it's always better to be safe so I don't see why you shouldn't use a few washers just to be sure, it couldn't hurt.-james

Hey Chas67,welcome.This wont help you but I really just wanted to say hi.When i did my front end rebuild the hole was to far down in the castle nut to get the pin in.I had to grind down the tierod shaft to get it threw the spindle enough to push the pin in.Try the washers and make sure the pin is in the castelnut properly.its all that holds it on...Good luck,Ed. ;)
